“Not so great . . .”
Reviewed 26 August 2010

The best part of this property is the location. It is a just a few blocks from the center of Lake Geneva. The rest was a huge disappointment. Tired furniture, scratchy sheets, small rooms, bathroom could have been nice, as it was large and appointed with steam shower, etc., but it was not clean. The public areas of the house are overstuffed with junk and look very tired and in need of maintenance. Breakfast was okay, but you can see into the kitchen which was a mess. Not an appetizing experience. Basically, this property is misrepresented in terms of luxurious or romantic. Having been to many luxurious and romantic B & B's, this was quite a letdown, especially for the price. Very overpriced for what you receive. We would not recommend it.

My family stayed at the T. C. Smith Inn over the Christmas Holiday. My wife and I stayed in one room and we had our kids in the next room. I found the bathrooms were very large, Ours had a nice whirlpool and a separate shower. Breakfast was nice and served fresh and hot when we wanted it. The Innkeeper was splendid and friendly. We loved the personal attention. We didn't bring our dogs, we have 4. We would have needed another room! We would stay here again, it was close enough to everything, but a few blocks away from downtown so traffic and parking weren't an issue.

We just returned from a long weekend in Lake Geneva. We chose the TC Smith Inn because we were able to bring our dog along. Most places that I looked into either charged a large fee/deposit to bring your pet or simply did not allow animals. We were so pleased to learn that we would be able to bring our “child” with us! The innkeeper welcomed our dog as a guest, had special treats for him, and even offered to watch him if we wanted to go out and leave him there. You’re not going to find that kind of hospitality anywhere else! Maureen, the innkeeper, was absolutely accommodating and so friendly! Upon arriving and meeting her, we immediately felt like she was family that we were visiting for the weekend. There wasn’t another guest staying this particular weekend so she gave us a tour of the house, showed us all the rooms, and let us pick out which one we wanted to stay in. The fireplace in the room was a nice added touch. She left gift certificates to different area restaurants for us, had wine waiting each night, candles, and basically everything we could possibly need while we were there. She was so helpful and was able to answer any questions we had about the area or things we were thinking about doing. The location of the B&B could not have been better. We were 2 blocks, or a 5 minute walk, from Main Street, all the shops, the lake, the beach, boating, restaurants, hiking, horseback riding, and every amenity. The house was so warm and had so much character! It was very comfortable and nice to come home to at the end of a long day! One of my favorite things about the inn was the amazing bathrooms! I used the Jacuzzi tub every night and was in heaven! We don’t have one of those in our high-rise in downtown Chicago! Last but finally not least, the breakfast we were served each morning was out of this world! Egg soufflés, homemade French toast on homemade bread, fresh fruits, juice, fresh coffee all formally served on china with silver place settings- so nice! We were sad to leave and can’t wait to come back again!!!

We drove up from Chicago for a quick weekend getaway & it was perfect for that.
We have a yellow lab mix that we love to take along with us, but not many places allow pets, but this b&b was great. The location was perfect, within 2 blocks from the main center of town, but also in a quiet residential area.
The rooms were nice, but very vintage, just like historic inns tend to be. The breakfast was nice & just the right portions. The innkeeper is hilarious! If you let her, she will talk your ear off…but we enjoyed her. It is a little pricy, but you have to expect that since the inn IS DOG FRIENDLY.

I read some of the reviews from 6 years ago. Things have changed. This is a great, clean little, dog-friendly B&B. Maureen was a perfect hostess and very tolerant of our rambunctious 3 year old. (of course, as long as the other guests were not disturbed). A dog lover to the core, she even watched our oldie Golden Retriever for a couple of hours when we had a schedule conflict. There are only 2 rooms for guests; it felt like we had the place to ourselves most of the time. The location was convenient, only 21/2 blocks from the main strip and lakefront park, yet far enough away to be nice and quiet. Breakfast was a feast! Fresh berries, danishes, cereal, french toast, egg souflees (delicious) all served in the elegant dining room. No skimping as I've seen at other B&B's! We had a great time here escaping from the chaos that July 4th brings to Chicago.

The website is a complete misrepresentation of the inn. The pictures make the room look twice as big as it really is, and there is no fireplace as seen in the photo!! The coffee maker in the room was disgustingly dirty, along with the shower. The main floor of the inn was also exceedingly dirty. The website states that guests will receive a full homemade breakfast buffet however, when we arrived we were told that breakfast would be "fruit and coffee cake...if you want." This inn is completely overpriced and dirty and I would not recommend it to anyone!
