Smokey Hollow Campground
Reviewed 15 August 2013

We live close to Smokey Hollow, but every year we make sure we spend 4-5 days camping. The kids are exhausted at the end of every day--they never stop moving. They'll swim, jump on the Jumping Pillow, rides the banana bikes, play all day and never complain that we ban electronics while we are there.
They're happy, and I'm happy, too. The staff is incredible--everything is very clean, and any questions or problems are addressed right away. The staff are great with kids. We were in a gazebo this year, which makes camping so much easier--we still cooked over the fire and spent almost all of our time outside, but we slept in bunks (and the loft) and had a refrigerator... The bathhouses are checked and cleaned frequently, which is huge. The store has almost anything that you might need, and Lodi is less than ten minutes away, so a trip to the grocery store is no big deal.

We rented a cabin, which was nice since we didn't bring a camper. I will say if you want to get away from people, this is not the place. Kids and people everywhere. But that was not a problem because we knew that and had kids coming here.

The activities were endless. You can tell whomever owns or manages this place knows that the way you keep people coming is through the activities and sports. There was about anything imaginable here, from life size chess boards, to a pond full of 15 air filled slides, rafts, etc. Amazing really. This place also is a day camp, so kids show up morning and leave at end of day.

The pond is interesting. Blue green dyed water in a man-made pond. But it served the purpose.

They do charge deposits for everything and do nickel and dime. But it seems like most of the nicer places do, until you get to the real ritzy places.

I would come here again. Rented cabin for $80/night. Refrig/freezer and electricity. No stove or bathroom or sink (go to the public area for that).

Would I come here again? You bet, especially with kids under 16.

We just spent 4 nights at Smokey Hollow and are already making plans to go back next year. There are so many activities for the kids that they were kept busy all day.The pond, Water Wars, Giant Shopping cart rides, jumping pillow, dunk tank, movies every night (outdoors when the weather permitted), bikes, space basketball....the list goes on and on. Keeping the kids busy in this safe and secure environment allowed my husband and I to relax and enjoy the camping experience. At night, our family loved sitting around the campfire talking about what we had done each day, who we had met, and what we planned to do tomorrow. Nobody wanted to leave when it was time to go. The staff was friendly and exceptionally helpful with everything. The site (we had a tent site) was spacious and convenient to activities yet still felt private with mature trees surrounding it. We are very pleased with our experience and highly recommend it to anyone considering camping in this area.

We come back every year. We always stay in a yurt or cabin and they are always in great condition. Very affordable and the kids LOVE playing on all the air filled water toys!! It is well worth the time. We tell everyone to try it once and then you're hooked! There are other places to stay as well, covered wagons and gazebo style cabins. All with a/c, fridge, coffee maker and microwaves! Great little store and great ice cream. I didn't even mention how much more there is to do if you pay a fee and get a wristband, but the kids love being in the water so much we never even need to!

This camp ground is a bad dream for anyone that wants to relax. If you dont live the high life and are not snob or bias you would not fit into this campground. The management is dishonest and money hungry. You have to pay for hot water to take a shower and to have a septic holding tank a $400.00 deposit is required that you dont see again when they advertise septic. They get you with a $200.00 deposit that you should throw out the window when you pull in. They tell you the check is in the mail. If you are a nice honest person go to another campgrounds and enjoy yourself dont get caught in the drama that comes with this place.
