Description: Rookies Food & Spirits is the perfect place for the whole family. In addition to the bar and dining areas, Rookies features an authentic Wiffle ball field with an attached clubhouse that’s fantastic for birthdays, reunions, graduation parties, and other events. If you’re a sports fan, you won’t find a better place to watch all the games, local and national. We’re stocked with 29 TV screens; there’s not a bad seat in the house. Over 6,000 baseball cards cover the walls of the men’s room, and autographed memorabilia covers nearly every other square inch of the restaurant and bar, floor to ceiling. Owner Steve Schmitt, also owner of The Shoe Box and the Madison Mallards baseball team, has filled Rookies with his passion for sports in the form of the best collection of sports memorabilia this side of Cooperstown. Much of the memorabilia was donated and autographed by Steve’s personal friends. You won’t believe the collection until you see it. Whether you’re a sports fan, passionate about top-quality down-home American cooking, or just in the mood to have a drink with the friendliest staff in Wisconsin, Rookies has what you’re looking for. Stop by the best sports shrine in the area for a hot meal and a cold beer.

“Marginal bar food”
Reviewed 24 August 2014 via mobile

Okay if you're on Hwy 14 and desperate for a sandwich or a beer, but I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here. It's filled with sports memorabilia, so if that's your interest, you might be able to overlook the marginal food.

“Simply Awesome!!”
Reviewed 9 August 2014 via mobile

Any baseball fan should plan on spending 2-3 hours here. The food including the onion rings is very good.

Go on Tuesday and you will be thrilled with the Meatloaf special including mashed potatoes and fresh gravy with corn on the cob is special.

Madison Mallards owner Steve Schmitt also owns Rookies and has over 6,000 pieces of mostly baseball memoribilia that should keep you busy for an hour.

Spend an extra hour and plunk down $50 to plunk down some great memories of the best Wiffle ball field at any restaurant in America!

It is a great set up and fun to watch kids and adults play Wiffle ball!!

About 20-30 minutes west of Madison.

“Ayyy batter!”

Onion rings here rock! Choose from a 1/2 or whole bat. Served up to you on a bat type stick. Interesting presentation. I recommend them every trip!!

“What a great time!”
Reviewed 24 July 2014

This restaurant is off the beaten path, but if you like sports paraphanlia (baseball in particular), or playing wiffle ball, this is worth it! They have a wiffle ball field behind the building that is available to patrons. It has a turf infield and they supply the balls and bats. We played a game of three on three, including children and adults, and had a fantastic time. The food was good, the service was good, and the prices reasonable.

“Fun place to eat!”
Reviewed 4 May 2014

I met a group here for a late lunch. They enjoyed their meals and the service was TOP NOTCH! It is a sports themed restaurant with TONS of things to look at. They have an office wiffle ball field that our table overlooked - very cute!
