“Wedding Weekend”
Reviewed 21 August 2014

For my son's wedding, the wedding party and many friends stayed at the Iron House. It was wonderful. Enjoyed staying in a well restored old factory. The rooms were large and well equipped. We especially enjoyed the ability to congregate in a wonderful outdoor area. The staff was warm, friendly and helpful. Very convenient to the Third Ward. Highly recommend this hotel.

We just stayed 4 nights at the Iron Horse Hotel, while celebrating our son's wedding. From the time of arrival to departure we were treated to incredible service & friendly greetings from every employee on a daily basis. The lobby reception area is very welcoming and the food was sensational. Our room was large with a service bar, large bath, super comfortable bed and the rooms were very quiet. The huge patio, which is dog friendly, provided a great selection of seating arrangements along with a full bar and great service (and even water bowls for the dogs). The hotel is very dog/cat friendly and the staff make a big fuss over the pets and even have a chalkboard with the pets names in the lobby along with treats/water. Our entire wedding party stayed at the Iron Horse and our stay could not have been more perfect!

Room Tip: All the rooms that the wedding party & guests occupied were quiet, bright and super clean!

We stayed here for 4 days. The hotel is an amazing and well done restoration of an old factory. The staff is attentive and helpful. We really enjoyed the restaurant for breakfast and dinner. Excellent meals featuring locally sourced ingredients. The rooms are clean and the cleaning staff was very responsive to our special requests for towels and alternate cleaning times, etc.

We did not have a car which limited our access to many attractions of Milwaukee but if you are into Harley Davidson, this is the place to be. It is a short walk to the museum and there were a couple of motorcycle-themed events at the hotel just while we were there. It is also an easy walk to Amtrak to take a trip into Chicago.

Really nice hotel in a so-so area of Milwaukee, but close to the Third Ward and the Harley Davidson Museum so not that bad. Very nice rooms with a large bar area which was nice to use for a "catch all" area. Bathroom and shower really roomy, but privacy could be a little compromised if you have someone who really wants their privacy when using the bathroom. We faced the train tracks and this worried me since I am a light sleeper, but the train didn't really bother me (it sounded like they had to power down when going past the hotel so the rumble was muted), but they do offer complimentary ear plugs just in case. There is a restaurant onsite, but we didn't have a chance to try it. There is a fantastic outdoor patio area (The Yard) that was a great place to have drinks/light bites. There is also a nice indoor bar area with TVs. Staff was mostly very nice and helpful. Great lobby if you have a group to gather.

Dear TravelGirlNashville-

We are very glad you were able to add us to your list of hotel visits as it is clear that you are an experienced traveler. I would agree with you that the Yard is one of my favorite places in the hotel and a great place to relax and grab a few drinks. We hope that you make your way to the Milwaukee and please let me know if there is ever anything I can assist with when you do.

Stayed for the first time 2 days ago in the Iron Horse - short, but great stay. Had a superb dinner in Smyth after a few yuks about the description of Wisconsin specialties. I've been in the Pfister and the Intercontinental and now finally, a cool hotel for future stays. Great bar area and wonderful outside ambience. So much history in the hotel which is graciously explained by little signs around.

Room Tip: i had a room that came with earplugs because trains go by - I saw one and it was going slowly so ver...

I'll try to cover some of the things that haven't been covered in previous reviews.

I was having a hard time envisioning the area where this hotel is located. It is basically a warehouse district. A river and a train track run directly in back of the hotel. We requested two rooms in front of the hotel and barely heard the trains. There might have been two that came by during the night.

Directly in front of the hotel is a small parking lot that the valet uses, but there are spaces for motorcycles. (These spaces might be valet park also.) There is also a larger lot, diagonal from the hotel, but I think it is also used by the valet. The only street parking is immediately to your right as you enter the hotel. There are cars lining both sides of the street for approx. 3 blocks. There are no side streets. If you feel comfortable leaving your car further away, parking is available. We stayed at the hotel during a busy weekend, so we were competing with bar guests and two wedding reception groups. Getting a spot after 8pm is difficult.

To get to the Harley Davidson museum, you have to walk around that front parking lot and veer to the right. There is a newer bridge going over the river with a nice sidewalk. You then have to walk across the Harley Davidson property to get to the museum entrance. There is a nice paved nature trail along the river that is preferable to the street leading to the museum. It is a 10 minute walk, door to door, for the average walker.

We had two standard rooms and both were different. I recommend 516, with a king bed, because of the brick wall and corrugated shower wall. 515, next door with 2 queen beds, was nice, too, but only had a couple of wooden pillars. Ceilings were very high, with aluminum duct-work.

We were allowed to check-in early and check-out late.

Be sure to explore the main floor. There is coffee there in morning and flavored water throughout the day. I discovered a library in the back right corner of the main floor, only to learn later that breakfast is served there. Now that was a unique experience!

Room Tip: 516 is a great "regular" room
