“Perfect...except the location”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 July 2009

This hotel was very nice. The rooms were nice sized and the beds were very comfortable. But I would have preferred staying closer to downtown. This hotel qualifies on priceline as being downtown and I got a relative bargain at $79/night plus free parking. (My buddy stayed at the Hyatt the same night for $99 plus about $25 to park). But it is not in the best neighborhood (supposedly Jeffrey Dahmer used to hang around this hotel a long time ago). They did have free shuttles to take you down to the Summerfest, which was nice if you timed it out correctly. Overall, I did like it, but I would have preferred a hotel more in the thick of things.

This is our 6th time staying at the hotel. We enjoyed our stay. And now the bar is non-smoking so the smoke does not drift into the restaurant and lobby anymore. We will return.

The air conditioning in our room was broken, and was blowing out hot air. It was so hot in the room it was difficult to sleep. We were told that the air conditioning was controlled by a central computer that was not functioning, and there was nothing they could do.

We talked to the manager the next morning, and he told us that they would not give us a discount on the room, that responding to our complaint was all that was necessary, whether or not the problem was fixed.

Stay here if you want an inexpensive room, but DON'T expect to have any comfort.

AHAdministration, Manager at Ambassador Hotel, responded to this review, 15 June 2009
We regret that the guest was uncomfortable during their stay. Guest comfort is a top priority at the Ambassador. We have taken numerous steps in the design of the hotel to ensure that we offer the best in available amenities and facilities. The Ambassador is the only hotel in Milwaukee's downtown area that offers a three-pipe heating / cooling system. This system allows the property to offer both heat and air conditioning year-round. In addition, each guest room is able to control their individual heating / cooling settings. The system as a whole is controlled by a centralized computer system that can be adjusted and / or reset as need by maintenance from both inside the hotel or remotely. This allows our maintenance department to provide service on demand, 24 Hours a day. We also have recently installed energy saving thermostats that are controlled via infrared sensors. These thermostats turn on when the room is entered and turn off when it senses that there is nobody present in the room. The temperature is controlled in accordance with energy-saving guidelines, but can also be manually adjusted by the guest. To date, we have not received complaints in regard to the thermostats or their function, as they are relatively easy to use.

If any maintenance-related complaint should be received, our staff is under instruction to contact maintenance immediately to rectify the problem. If the problem is not able to be fixed within a reasonable amount of time our staff is to offer to move the guest into an upgraded room (when available) to compensate for their inconvenience.

Again, guest satisfaction and comfort is top priority here at the Ambassador. We regret that the guest was uncomfortable.

I chose this hotel because of the price and distance to the Rave Concert Venue. An old hotel that is well kept and unique.Really nice rooms, great bed, great TV and clean, clean, clean.Free shuttles to the area attractions. We went to the Harley Museum.Desk called to make sure things were fine.5 minutes to the expressway. Whats not to like!

The bad - This hotel is out of the way a bit. About 25 blocks to downtown. It is close to the University, but if you need to stay downtown, I do not recommend it. The hotel restaurant and bar are passable, but nothing special.

The good - This is a funky but nice hotel with some cool art deco features and old style elevators that give it a unique feel. The rooms are very nice and spacious. Bathrooms are nice and amenities are top notch.

The cool perk - This hotel is across the street from The Rave. The Rave is the old Eagles Ballroom, was one of the last places played by Buddy Holly, and hosts a bunch of great shows even to today. On the night I was there the Yeah Yeah Yeahs were playing and this made for a GREAT night.

If you need to be in Milwaukee, check who is playing at The Rave. If you want to see the show, get a ticket and stay at the Ambassador Hotel (Not the Inn.. the HOTEL). See your show, walk across the street to the hotel bar for a nightcap and you have only an elevator to your room.

Free shuttle to downtown, nice runs till midnight. Room was very spacious, and ummmmm Aveda products. Our room was not ready at 4:30 pm when we arrived and needed to freshen up, so they gave us a different room to use till are's was ready. Nice touch. Nothing within walking distance, oh except McDonolds for a cheap breakfast.
The do have a shuttle to Miller Park if needed. Nice.

I thought this hotel was great. As soon as i entered i was greated by a friendly member of staff, who had checked me in within minutes and was on my way to my room. As i entered my room, it was a instant wow! Surley this isnt my room i said to myself! I couldnt believe the size of it. I have travelled extensivley and the only thing i could compare this to was a suite, which you would normally pay way more for. It was spotless. The bed was amazing especially after a long flight from the UK, it was much needed! An excellent seating area with a massive flatscreen TV. I suppose the only negative point i could come up with is that the bathroom was a little on the small side. Being a man that really didnt bother me, but thought if your a lady and you like to spend a lot of time in the bathroom with all your bits and bobs it might not be for you. Other than that everything else is a plus in this hotel - Great bar, Excellent food, and a shuttle that takes you to downtown.
