“Not a good experience”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 September 2009

They overbook rooms as a common practice so BEWARE. I was the first to arrive in our group of 2 rooms and asked the front staff what I would have to do to be sure the other group's room was held for a late arrival. Was told "not a problem" she would put a note to hold for late arrival and there was a credit card on it. When they arrived after the concert the room was GONE! Sent to another hotel which was not comparable in the middle of the night. Very unprofessionally handled and ruined our weekend of spending time with friends. We all live out of town and met for the concert and to spend some time together. Also would not recommend as is not in a the best location for anything but Marquette and taking the shuttle to where you want to go. Shuttle runs every hour on the half hour which did not work for our arrival and to get to The Bradley Center for a concert. Was told they could not make a special shuttle trip however over heard them tell someone else they would make a special trip to stadium at 7. Will not stay ther again because of how we were treated.

I just returned from a 2 night stay where I went to enjoy the Rock of Alice In Chains at the Rave just across the street from the hotel. This hotel doesn't look like much from the outside, but the inside is absolutely beautiful and unique. The attire of the employees is very professional. I felt VERY welcome, comfortable and safe at this hotel. We were upgraded to a larger room at no extra cost without even asking. The staff was so friendly, courteous and helpful. They made me feel special. They went out of their way to make my stay as good as it could be....even going as far as to walk us across the street to the Rave in the rain so that we could use the hotel's umbrellas. We walked down Wisconsin St. to the River. The architecture on this stroll was unbelievable. The views on the River were awesome. I would DEFINITELY stay here again and HIGHLY recommend it to others.

This hotel, and it's staff are top notch. The complimentary shuttle allows guests to park their car and leave it for their entire stay, at no extra charge. We were shuttled to the Brewer game, and picked up afterward. The next night, we went to see a concert at the Rave, which is located across the street from the Ambassador. It was raining rather hard, and one of the hotel staff took the time to walk us and another couple over with umbrellas to the front door of the venue. This is only one example of the fine hospitality offered by this professional staff. The bar and the restaurant are wonderful as well. Delicious food, and excellent drinks. (Try their Bloody Mary...you will not be disappointed.) The room was clean, comfortable, spacious and the beds are the most comfortable that I have ever slept on away from home. I would absolutely recommend this hotel to anyone. Thank you Ambassador staff for making our stay so wonderful! We will definitely be back!

Upon checking into the Ambassador Millwaukee, we found our room to be spacious but there were hidden problems that we didn't find until after we had unpacked and were settled in. If you decide to stay at the Ambassador, DO NOT stay in room 411 - the bathroom door hits the toilet everytime we entered or exited; the bathtub was clogged and not taken care of even after reporting it to the front desk.

Upon pressing my slacks to wear for the evening, the heated starch buildup on the bottom of the hotel's iron stuck to my slacks, causing a black smug and creating a hole !! When reporting this to management, the blame was immediately turned to me - "we offer laundry and dry cleaning services"..... "you should have checked the bottom of the iron before pressing" Needless to say I asked for nominal compensation for which the GM immediately declined my request. In other words - STAY AT YOUR OWN RISK!

We did enjoy the free shuttle downtown - Sam is a saint and wonderful guide but not worth the headache of management.

Yes, the hotel is a bit "out of the way" and in a 'questionable' part of town, but the shuttle service (especially Sam!) made this hotel worth the approximate $99/night we paid.

Sitting on the cute front patio was really neat --- would recommend an afternoon cocktail or nightcap if weather permits.

Didn't try the restaurant, but didn't need to --- we went to all far corners of the city to grab bites and make adventures --- saw and did a TON more with the free shuttle service transport than we would have on our own.

Oh, and have you seen what other hotels make you pay nightly for downtown area parking ---- the price is right here for $0! That's right, free --- totally worth the cost of a late night cab (if necessary) --- I think shuttle is done around midnight.

The reason for 4 stars instead of 5 --- is well, the location (though the shuttle more than makes up for it in my opinion), and the tiny (double) bed...oh well, I did ask for an upgrade to a king (didn't take it because it'd cost ~$20/night)...and the door of the bathroom hit the toilet seat when opening and closing. Not cool. Bed itself and bedding was super great!

I stayed at this hotel for 6 weeks (3days a week). I found the hotel to be comfy and pleasant. Rooms were very nice considering the age of the hotel. Very art deco style. Front desk staff very attentive and professional. Bar staff and cafe staff nice but slow, not real attentive. Restaurant staff very good and food was decent. Central city easy access to other parts of the city. Neighborhood a little tough. The hotel and its parking was very secure and safe.

The hotel is absolutely beautiful -- with the art deco decor. The rooms are very roomy and the bed is VERY comfy. But above all that, the service by the staff is first rate!

Be sure to take advantage of the free shuttle service that the hotel provides. We were there for 4 days and didn't use our car once we parked. The hotel shuttle took us to the Brewers game, the Harley Davidson museum, the casino, and dining in all the hot downtown spots. Sam, the shuttle driver also took the time to provide a little tourist info.
