If you like bland Mexican food, this is the place for you.
Ordinary at best- no heat- no authenticity. This is the place for people who like their Mexican food mild, little flavor, lots of cheese and a margarita.

I went here right after I turned 21 and wasn't carded when I ordered a frozen margarita. (Of course, thats always a tad bit insulting)... especially since my friends all in their late 20s were carded. Oh well! I received my margarita (on the rocks?!) and when I informed the waiter I wanted mine blended, he charged me for both drinks. Oh well. The food was standard Americanized-Mexicana : The portions weren't very big and I never got a refil on my glass of water, but the tequila was just strong enough to dull my senses at the time. Beautiful decor, however. You feel as though you are sitting in a green lagoon, gorgeous.

Botanas is big (bigger than it appears when you walk in). The food is better than average Mexican fare (I like it better than La Fuente or other big Mexican places nearby). There are a lot of choices, the margaritas are pretty standard- - not particularly strong and on the sweet side. The good thing about this place is that the menu is extensive so you can bring a group here and almost everyone will be happy. But if you want authentic Mexican food- there are other tiny places on the south side that are great. Or if you want more interesting Mexican food, try Xel-has.

The service is very nice. If you are a lady, the waiters will almost always flirt with you (and not in a creepy way).

In my opinion, Texas has the best and cheapest Mexican food. Milwaukee doesnt have the best, but Las Botanas is the closest. The margaritas are perfect and the food is pretty darn good. The atmosphere is very rich and they show you a great time. Try it, you wont regret it!
