Awesome architecture, serene and peaceful. Worth a visit even if you don't attend mass

An old church, nothing compared to St. Josaphat . In downtown area and close to the east side

If you are a church architecture buff you have to this cathedral. Interesting blend of modern and traditional aspects. The sanctuary cross is a marvel.

This is the home of the Archbishop. Several years ago it was dramatically modernized with more flexible seating. Christmas concerts are marvelous. Beauiful place for mass.

I was staying a block from the St. John's Cathdral and decided to take a look inside. It was immediately apparent that someone thought the cathedral needed "updating" and made two ghastly changes:
1. A huge crown of thorns and crucifix hanging from the ceiling in the middle of the interior is hideous in so many ways it defies description.
2. What was I'm sure once an attractive area behind the altar at the very front of the cathedral is now a vast array of organ pipes. Dreary and ugly at the same time.
The good news is that these gross mistakes are curable.
