“Excellent B&B”
Reviewed 4 September 2007

Let me just start by saying that because we didn't have breakfast, and it's a bit too far from centre to walk in, I've only given an Average, but if it's the right location for your stay, I would absolutely recommend it.

My husband and I stayed for two nights at Hamden with our niece. The proprietor was very pleasant and both the room and ensuite bathroom were quite spacious, especially by B&B standards. Ours overlooked the back garden from the second floor (or first floor, if you're European). Though it is not the prettiest place we've ever stayed, everything was clean and tidy, there were extra blankets and pillows in the cupboards, and soap and shampoo in the bath (which is not typical for B&Bs).

We can't really comment on breakfast, as we did not partake - our friends lived literally just down the street so we had brunch with them, but as per other reviews, they asked us when we would like it (as opposed to telling us when we could have it), and the room was pleasant and well-equipped. Looked like it would have been good.

Finally, I would say that for those without a car, Hamden may be a bit far outside the core, and we did drive/taxi in both days, and even that was 10-15 mins depending on traffic. However, Cherry Hinton is well serviced, there is a liquor store, small grocery store, and a few pubs and an excellent Indian restaurant a short walk down the street.

  • Liked — Clean, spacious, comfortable and close to our friends' house.
  • Disliked — Not as close to centre as convient for touring Cambridge without a car.

We stayed for one night in August. B&B is about a 10 minute drive from the centre and there is plenty of parking. We stayed on the ground floor at the back of the hotel overlooking the (beautiful) garden. Room had tea/coffee making facilities and a mini-fridge and was extremely quiet. The bathroom was a little on the small side but not a problem.

The owner was extremely helpful giving us a map of the city and pointing out the places we could park for free (after 6pm).

Breakfast was lovely and nothing was too much trouble. The breakfast room had a cafe style feel and we could watch our breakfast being cooked!

We would stay here again if we return to Cambridge.

We stayed here for one night (14th April).

Our room was ready ahead of schedule and we were able to check in straight away. We had room 1 which overlooks the beautiful garden at the back of the property. There is plenty of storage space and the whole room was immaculate: the bed is extremely comfortable. The shower room is a bit small, but fully functional and immaculate once again.

There is a choice of breakfast and everything is cooked to order.

The proprietors are a very friendly couple and we would like to say thankyou for a wonderful stay.
