The hotel itself is not anything special or nice but it is in reasonable condition and decently priced for a one night stay.
The problems we encountered were what made the trip nothing but a headache. First off we kept getting double charged after we made the initial reservation. My boyfriend had to call a handful of times before the issue was resolved. An employee would take off the double charge and then a few days later, we would get charged AGAIN. This occurred several times before finally we could get a manager on the phone to take care of it once and for all. So that was a little annoying but not a huge deal.
Now, our sole purpose of our trip was to go Noah's Ark for the day. Online, in an email and plastered on their front door, Days inn Portage claimed that if you stayed there, you would receive discounted Noah's Ark tickets. When we asked for the tickets the woman behind the front desk (Maria) said that she only had two tickets left, we had a party of six. She called her manager (a very casual, unprofessional phone call) and she informed us that the rest of the tickets did not get there yet. We asked when they would be there and she said not for a few days. When we asked what she could do for us she with much attitude basically said, nothing...too bad. All that Maria said was that discounted tickets could be purchased at the local Kwik Trips so we drove all the way there and she misinformed us, they do not sell discounted Noah's Ark tickets. Whether she purposely sent us there to get us to leave, that I do not know but either way, she needs to get her information right before sending people on a wild goose chase for something that is not factual. Was this whole fiasco about the money? No, not at all but I work in the marketing/business world and am well aware that we were the victims of false advertisement and I cannot be quiet about it. We (the consumers) lost money through a purchase that would not have been made had the advertisement not been misleading. It is about being misled and no one (the very rude girls at the front desk, managers, corporate) having done or even tried to do anything to make it right. Had they even just been kind, apologetic and professional throughout this process that would have been enough and I may have given the Days Inn Hotels another chance but rest assured we will never be staying at one of these again.
