Owner description: Wollersheim Winery sits on a scenic hillside across the Wisconsin River from Prairie du Sac. European vintners planted grapevines and built limestone buildings on this National Historic Site over 150 years ago. Today, Wollersheim Winery features a 30-acre vineyard of French-American hybrid grapes, as well as the original 1850s limestone buildings. Wollersheim Winery is best-known for its popular Prairie Fume wine, and is considered a leader in the Midwest’s wine industry. The winery has won many awards for its premium grape wines, including 2015 Small Winery of the Year at the Riverside County California Wine Competition and 2012 Winery of the Year at the San Diego International Wine Competition. In addition to wine, Wollersheim began distilling and released its first batch of Coquard Brandy in 2013. The success of this product inspired Wollersheim to construct a distillery on the winery’s property in 2015. Wollersheim Distillery includes its own tasting room and store with a view of the stillhouse. Coquard Brandy is being made there alongside other family crafted brandies, whiskey, absinthe, and gin. The fruits for the all-Wisconsin brandies are locally-grown, and the grains for the whiskey and gin come from farmers located just minutes from the distillery. Wollersheim’s newest offering, 1876 Presshouse Brandy was awarded Gold in 2016 at the Beverage Testing Institute in Chicago. Wollersheim Winery is open for tours and tastings from 10 am to 5 pm, and Wollersheim Distillery is open from 12 pm to 5 pm, daily.

“Great wine, even better tour”
Reviewed 14 July 2014 via mobile

Steeped in a wine making history you would not expect to find 20 miles northwest of Madison, WI off US12. Beautiful setting near the Wisconsin River with just under 40 acres of vineyards, lovingly restored buildings from the 1800s and the tastefully done addition from about 10 years ago. Tour is engaging and the staff very friendly. Bring a picnic and enjoy with their wines. 2012 Vineyard of the Year, I can see why.

“Fun experience and great wine choices”
Reviewed 10 July 2014

We spent an enjoyable afternoon touring the winery and enjoying samples of several wines. A number of us bought additional flights to taste some additional wines. The atmosphere and the staff were very welcoming. I would go back again and often except that I live in another state. We enjoyed the wines so much that we bought a case of a variety of different wines. We are continuing to enjoy the wines.

“I'll have a glass of”
Reviewed 30 June 2014

Have been coming here for over 20 years and sorta feel like friends of the family. Have learned to appreciate wine and certainly have my favorites. Love to introduce others to this place and to the wines. If you are in the area it is worth the stop...take the tour...sample the wine...and take in the atmosphere. Relax and unwind.

“We keep going back <3”
Reviewed 25 June 2014

If you're ever in Madison, WI, take time to travel about 30 minutes west to Wollersheim. This place is a triple play: the winery is beautiful, wines are tasty and people are friendly. We visit 3-4 times per year and are never disappointed. If you're lucky, you'll get to buy their 100% Wisconsin Coquard Brandy. Everything, from grapes to oak barrel are indigenous to Wisconsin. If you visit in the fall or winter, there's a good chance of seeing eagles soar overheard.

“Worth the Drive”
Reviewed 24 June 2014 via mobile

We visited Wollersheim on a recent visit to Wisconsin Dells. It's a bit of a drive, but worth it. The tour and tasting costs $5, very reasonable. The wines were good; we were told that only about 15% of the grapes used were actually grown there, with the rest shipped in. -- understandable for the climate. We were quite impressed with the ports; the tawny was especially smooth. They also make their own brandy, which we did not try on this visit.

Overall, a very nice experience.
