We ate dinner at Muddy Waters in Prescott a few days ago with another couple. All of us ordered different meals and shared with one another to get a nice sampling of their menu. I had the Cajun Shrimp Pasta and it was great. All the other entrees I sampled were equally as good. The Brie and bread appetizer was also very good. A powerful thunderstorm came through as we were eating and our waitress had to run out in the sideways rain to close several umbrellas on the deck. When she ran back in all of the diners gave her an ovation! The multi-level decks at this Muddy Waters are wonderful and all with a great view of the St. Croix and Mississippi rivers joining. We truly enjoyed our evening here.

On Sunday, June 1st, we decided to take a drive over to Prescott for lunch on the river. When we were greeted at the front door of Muddy Waters, the hostess asked if we'd like a table inside. We indicated we'd like to sit on the covered portion of the outdoor deck. She immediate said that food and drinks would not be served outdoors but did not give a reason. We still decided to check out the outdoor deck to see how nice it was outside when we noticed another couple sitting on the deck - with food and drinks. When we saw this, we asked to have an outdoor table. She began to seat us in an uncovered portion of the patio that still had wet chairs from the rain storm that had recently blown through. We did not follow her to the table, but rather went and sat in some dry chairs under the covered deck area. It was warm out, but there looked to be another big storm that was coming our way so we wanted to stay dry if it began raining. Her attitude was not pleasant, and it seemed as if she was completely against us sitting outdoors in the area we chose. She was very rude.

If you have not been to Muddy Waters, the portion of the covered upper deck is very small - I believe there was only 6 tables. Less than 5 minutes after we sat down, the hostess returned to the deck area and pushed three tables together for a group of about ten teens - a group who she clearly knew as she was talking and laughing with them. Immediately, we knew she tried to force us to an inside table or other area of the outdoor deck because she wanted those tables on the covered deck for her obnoxiously loud friends.

When our server came to our table, we asked if food and drinks were served on the deck and she replied with "of course." We told her the hostess indicated we could not order anything on the deck and she just rolled her eyes and said the hostess was wrong. Our server was nice and chatty at first, but then seemed to throw several personal facts in about herself that were strange and made us a bit uncomfortable. We ordered a couple of pina-coladas and an appetizer - spinach artichoke dip. The spin dip was ahhhh-mazing. We had to ask for more of the slightly toasted ciabatta bread as one small loaf was not nearly enough for the amount of spin dip on the plate. There actually was not much spinach in the dip. It was mostly butter and cheese with some artichokes - just the way we like it. We also ordered and split the bacon cheese burger with a fried egg - which was marvelous.

The entire time we were eating, the hostess continued coming out to the deck to talk with her table of friends and snack off the food on their plates. But her actions weren't just impacting us. Other guests were experiencing her poor service. On one occasion, she opened the patio door to seat an elderly couple in the outdoor area. On this occasion, she did not hold the heavy door open for the couple, instead she just let the door swing closed behind her hitting the elderly woman in the forearm and forehead - knocking her back into her husband. They immediately refused to be seated by her and went back inside (presumably to speak to a manager?).

On a nice day, this is a wonderful spot that overlooks the river and usually has some form of live entertainment. It really is a great food and entertainment stop. However, on this occasion, the poor service trumped the food resulting in a poor experience.

Wonderful, comfortable, and idyllic, location right on the St. Croix river. Sit out back and you can watch the big river roll by. It meets up with the Mississippi just a couple hundred feet down stream and the clear view of two classic old town bridges make to this a picture perfect setting. Best of all the food and service are fantastic. Lots of choices from steak to ribs to our favorite the in house smoked salmon appetizer. MMMMMM good, as Andy used to say. Plenty of beer and wine choices also, and the occasional live music and people watching is great.

Docked the boat right in front of the restaurant. A nice cruise from Hudson, WI. Service was so fast for everything. Drinks, apps and our meal. Pulled pork and slaw was a nice portion, daughter ate the smoked salmon app as her meal, tasty! I had the Salad with the pan seared tuna, an Asian like dressing, fresh and tasty. Someone else had the shrimp sandwich. Portions were right on. A good and tasty Bloody Mary too. Definitely will stop in again. We sat on the deck, great view of the river, the area we ate in had a limited menu, but was great! We could have waited to seat in another level for he full menu. Can't wait to go back! And it looks like they have a great lineup of music for the summer weekends too.

I've been going to Muddy Waters for 10 years and EVERYTIME I go
I am still finding new things to love while
Still being able to enjoy the things that I've loved for years. Favorite apps like Cajun beef tips and the smoked salmon are delicious! The service is always prompt and friendly and anticipating guests needs are in the forefront. The ambience is cozy and although dark for some people,
I prefer it. Blues is usually playing on the sound system, and in the summer the 3
Tier patio overlooking the river hosts live music on the weekends. A must see
In the summer if you're looking to do a short drive to this quaint river town by boat, motorcycle, or car.
