I called ahead and scheduled our tour. The docent greeted us and gave all of the
tour participants background information and lots of information and about the family and the home. Wingspread served as a family home for the Johnsons and is now a Foundation Conference Center. No tours are available if there is a conference in progress. They are very generous and allowed us to roam the public areas asking that we not sit on original furniture, etc. We were allowed to
take non-flash photos for personal use. Frank Lloyd Wright gave the family a
magnificent space with mulitistory ceilings and fireplaces, but also kept to the 2 childrens' wishes: a Juliet balcony in the daughters bedroom and a spiral staircase
thru the roof for the son's lookout. Be sure to see the inovative dining table which
originally could be retracted to the kitchen between courses. Also be sure to see the SCJohnson building in town- must schedule a separate tour for that.
