“Pleasant Wisconsin Supper Club”
Reviewed 22 June 2014

The Fireside is a typical Wisconsin supper club where regulars arrive, sit at the bar, place their order, and go to their table when it's ready. We arrived early and went straight to our table. The Friday fish fry included three choices of fish at competitive prices. Our waitress was very friendly, and took good care of us even when the place filled completely.

“Perhaps we hit an off night....”
Reviewed 10 September 2013

We dined here last Friday on the recommendation of two of our party who have been dining there on an almost regular basis and were very happy with their experience. It was not overly crowded for a Friday night but getting a seat at the bar was not easy with a party of five and we had quite a wait. Drink prices are quite reasonable and they make a good old fashioned. Baskets of pretzels are complementary on the bar. We arrived a little before 7 pm and we did not finish our ice cream drinks until shortly before 10 p.m. My observations with regard to the time problem are: It appeared to me that they only had one busperson and that person was not overly speedy in clearing and re-setting tables which could probably be cured by some education and some supervision. The other problem seemed to be with hostess who appeared to be somewhat disorganized with managing and flipping the tables in a speedy fashion. One example is they had several tables which were two tables pushed together under one long table cloth and they would seat three people at it, when it could have been split apart and seated 7 or 8 people. So if you go here to eat on a weekend, be prepared to wait. Once seated, it was a kitchen problem as far as delivery of food. One person had a porterhouse steak which was cooked perfectly. Baked potato was soggy and not very good. Twice baked potatoes appeared to be good because those who had them ate them right up. The rest of our party ordered the crusted walleye special which came with soup, salad, and choice of starch. Their house salad is standard fare, as is the clam chowder, good but not outstanding. The french onion soup was also good but not outstanding. The walleye was cooked perfectly and was very good but they were not overly large portions so if you are a big eater you might want to order the grilled shrimp skewer or shrimp cocktail which can be added to any entree for $4.25. The cost of the walleye was $13.45 which is very reasonable. They serve warm rolls in a basket and they were very tender and good with the soup. Sweet potato fries are a choice and while not homemade they were crispy and good when dipped in ranch salad dressing. Our waitress was very friendly and did her best although she realized that there was obviously a delivery problem and she gave us all tokens for a free drink before we left. Brandy Alexander, Grasshopper and and some sort of creme de banana drink were very visually very appealing and tasty. I have to add that I have other friends who have eaten here during the week and tell me the roast duck with red cabbage was awesome so I probably will go back for a second visit in case I hit them on a bad night.

“Cuz recommended”
Reviewed 10 August 2013

My wife's cousin recommended the Fireside as a great place for a Friday night fish fry. This past Friday night we decided to give the Fireside a try. Arrived about 6PM - must be peak time. Waited at the bar for about an hour - which is OK. We liked how we were able to order at the bar in advance of being seated. Nice - like we are used to at Two Lakes. Anyway, ordered Pollack, beer battered style. Table was in corner. Sides were served family style, which were German-style potato salad, vinegar-based pasta salad (great!), crackers and butter; and, cole slaw. Sides were very good. Oops, waitress forgot water. Waited for the glasses. BTW, being in the restaurant business, when a wait-staff refills water glasses, they should NEVER touch the pitcher to the customers glass. Touching is a great way to transmit germs

Someone should train the waitstaff better. Back to the food. Fish arrived and was perfectly prepared. So oveall the wait was a bit long but food was good. Would we return? Yes. If we do, please clean the great picture windows!!! Seems as if the spring cleaning should be done on a more regular basis... OK, so I'm nit picky on this. But, if you have picture windows, wouldn't you want them clean?

“Beautiful view and good food”

If you go for Friday fish fry, go early or late as it is packed! Good value and tasty. I love the large shrimp as well, but sometimes they can taste a bit iodine-y. If you happen to get a seat near a window, be sure to check out the fantastic hand made wooden toys which are for sale!
