Sheboygan has surprisingly become the go to place for superior Mexican food, surpassing that of south side Milwaukee. El Camino on the near north side of Sheboygan has become the standard to beat in recent years. It's quite a statement, then, to assert that La Conquistador on Indiana Avenue rivals El Camino in superior Mexican food. We've been there many times now and the food is always outstanding whatever we order. The freshness and preparation of each dish is of the best quality. Don't expect salsa to begin with. Instead some of the best pico de gallo I've ever eaten is served instead. Refurnished from an old garage it has a neat clean and bright Mexican colored flavor--what one might expect. This is a bit of a contrast in dining atmosphere from El Camino which is notably darker but still very nice none the less. Also in contrast with Camino is the sparse seating. Still an undiscovered gem, dining at La Con. is much more of a local, cozy family affair than the bursting crowds that appear at El Camino. The old garage door at La Con. is now a nearly full floor to ceiling window giving it a very nice atmosphere. Don't lay down a tip. The tip is included in the bill which is paid next door in the Mexican grocery store. The store portion is an added feature that El Camino obviously does not have. It is a pleasant experience shopping there. There is also a take out buffet in the store right next to the restaurant which opens into the store. One enters into the store to get to the restaurant. The original Mexican dishes are in full display in the buffet. In addition to the native Mexican dishes are the typical array of Tex-Mex offerings, all of superior quality. This is a restaurant for both the gringo and Hispanic that will be completely satisfying.
