“Lovely place, accommodating hosts and owners”
Reviewed 8 July 2013

In the past 7 years, I have been to the Church Hill Inn many times. The type trip changes and Church Hill Inn continues to meet my needs. There's been solitary trips, trips with my husband, a few with my 21 year old daughter as well as trips with my elderly mother. This time, we were a family of 4 with young adult "kids." The room was very comfortable and clean (the cleaning crew is top-notch and very helpful); the extensive breakfast buffet is delicious and keeps you going until late afternoon. I particularly like the scones and curdled cream (freshly baked pastry offerings change daily) plus the hearty foods like cheese strata (artichoke, sausage or/and ham), and fruit and granola. Love tea and coffee's availability 7-9:00 p.m. (iced tea for me, please) in the honors bar section. Small public refrigerators and microwaves let you bring leftovers from the restaurant to heat up later. (There's a large grocery store walking distance.) Important to note: we traveled with a trailered boat, a kayak and bicycles and all could be easily kept in the Inn's large parking lot and bike area. There are 5 interior sitting areas (4 with fireplaces) as well as nice swimming pool area and garden area with large fountain (viewing goldfinch bathing, a bonus). Mike and Lisa are the excellent hosts. There are spa treatments available in a nicely re-done lower level.

Room Tip: The corner luxury rooms are large with 3 windows on 2 sides, whirlpool tub and small refrigerator.

We stayed at the Church Hill Inn for a reunion of 30 college friends and spouses. The hosts were wonderful to our group. The breakfasts were great and different each morning. They have nice areas for groups to gather both inside and out, as well as spaces for reading, that is not in the rooms. With many interesting things to do in Door County, this is the perfect place to return to after a day or night away.

Very Clean. Great location. Comfortable Bed. Great Food. Quiet time starts at 9:30 PM. We were there for a road trip and it was the perfect place to stay. If we make it back to the door county area we will be back. Why try something different when we picked the perfect place the first time. We visited Washington island and drove around the area, ending with a sunset sail the first day and then visited wineries the second day. The owner of Church Hill recommended Chop for a great steak and it was the best I have ever had. I only wish we would have know about the shops upon arrival. We also found out that Walleye is not fresh in restaurants in Door County, if you want fresh fish ask about the catch of the day. "Don't yah noe"

We'd been wanting to try the Church Hill Inn for some time now, and we finally got our chance. We were impressed with the staff and the public areas. The Inn is very charming and extremely clean. There were many nice sitting areas scattered throughout with gas fireplaces blazing. We drank our wine in one of these cozy places. There is an honor bar (only in northern Wisconsin, right?) that was well-stocked, plus coffee available all day. A nice breakfast buffet was included with our reasonably priced room.

Many things about the room were nice: the furniture, the bedding, the towels, the porch. The things that were sub-par were the tv (small...we could hardly see the movie we watched on the dvd player from bed) and the bathroom. The bath was completely outdated. The tub was narrow and it filled with a trickle of water. Oddly enough, the shower had nice water pressure...I'm not sure why the discrepency.

We had a basic room and I know that there are upgraded rooms, but we showed up without a reservation for a spur-of-the-moment visit. We will likely return to the inn, but definitely in an upgraded room.

Thank you for your review. We are always in the process of updating our rooms, and of course replacing the televisions is a process that's in the works, some rooms do have the newer larger flat panels, and all will have them as soon as we can.

I would appreciate you calling and letting me know abourt which room you stayed in so we can address the slow faucet, we are one of the few towns on city water so pressure is not normally an issue.

The upgrade rooms have larger whirlpool tubs and other amenities, next time you are in the area, stop by and we will be happy to give you a tour of the available rooms, I know we have a style that will fit your needs perfectly.

I'm glad you enjoyed your stay. Mike & Lisa, Innkeepers

This was our second visit to the Inn and we are in love! We came for one reason....to get some much needed R&R. Since this is the "off season" it worked out perfect because a lot of resturants and shops are closed this time of year. If I were to describe it in one word it would be relaxing! Wow, from the cozy fireplaces throughout the building, to the unique english decor, to the very comfortable beds, to waking up to the wonderful smell of a homemade breakfast, this place has it all! It is so quiet and calm with classical music softly playing throughout the halls. It really feels like you are staying in a home. The innkeepers Lisa and Mike are so friendly, warm, inviting and accommodating. They are very willing to help if you have any questions about the area or give you recommendations. We came tired and worn out from every day routine and left refreshed, revived and relaxed! We definitely highly recommend this place to anyone needing some peace and quiet! Can't wait to plan our next visit!!

Room Tip: Loved having a hot tub and fireplace in our two room suite!

My wife and I spent a Sunday-Tuesday trip here. This is apparently one of the newer facilities in Door County. It combines elements of a hotel/inn with those of a B&B. There are 24 rooms on 2 floors. We were welcomed by the desk clerk who gave us the basic rundown on the Inn. We were not asked if we needed help with our bags. We didn't, but seems a basic courtesy of operation. There was an honor bar set up for those times when no one was tending the bar, and in the afternoon they set out some snacks; the one time we checked it was cocktail weinies in a crock pot and a basket of pretzels...meh.

We had the "Windsor" suite which had its own balcony, not big but big enough, and in-bathroom jacuzzi. The room was well appointed, even with a bay window seating area. TV was a non-flat panel Dynex (not exactly high quality for a high-priced room); considering we weren't there to watch TV it didn't matter that much. There was a small fridge unit in the room which sat directly on the floor -- really need a table to put that on so you aren't on your knees while using it. Again, given how much one is paying for the room rate these are the small touches one would expect to be present. The room was clean, and the bed was comfortable, although there were fairly large scratches on the footboard of the bed. We leaned back on the headboard to watch TV one evening and we heard a "pop"; we discovered that the side rail of the bed had literally pulled part from the headboard...that likely shouldn't have happened unless it was glued together after a prior problem.

The breakfast that was included was served from 8 - 10 a.m. The dining room was sufficient, and we received a warm welcome from the hostesses both mornings. They brought us juice and coffee. The daily breakfast itself, however, was set in a little breezeway between the lobby/bar area and the dining room. The warming dishes and other items required people to move around both sides of the serving table and back into the breezeway and then back into the dining area; it was not the greatest traffic flow set up. The food itself was good, not great. Comparing it with other B&Bs we've stayed in, this food was much more institutionalized, it seemed. Perhaps no choice given the difference between having to prepare for a handful of guests versus perhaps 10 times as many.

The location of the Inn does not allow for a view of the water, but it is close enough (given weather conditions) to walk to in about 10 minutes or so, along with the rest of central Sister Bay, which is full of shops and other eating establishments. It was also conveniently located just off Hwy. 57 which, along with Hwy. 42, are the two main routes into and out of Door County.

There are seating areas on each of the two floors, books and games available for use, as well as an exercise room and sauna, which we did not get a chance to use. My wife did have a foot massage, though, which was arranged through the front desk.

On the whole, it was a good experience. Was it worth the price, particularly with an extra premium added on for the Sunday night because it happened to be part of the Columbus Day weekend? We didn't think so. Felt it was a bit overpriced. If you've ever seen the TV show, Hotel Impossible with Anthony Melchiorri, we can only imagine he'd have some suggestions to make this nice place great. Seems like it's close, but just enough issues to keep it a notch below. Would we stay here again? We'd have no problem doing so. But given the other accommodation options throughout Door County we'd probably opt for something different with a rate more in keeping with what's delivered overall.

Room Tip: Corner/end room suite, such as the "Windsor," is spacious and quiet.

Hats off again to Mike and his staff. We had a great 3 night stay. The first night they had a fire in the fireplace going and long comfy couches in visiting areas. The other two nights, we returned too late to ask them to light the fireplace :o( The rooms are spotless, the beds very comfortable, spacious rooms. The included English breakfast was delicious (scones, coffeecake, homemade granola, ham, eggs, fresh fruit, etc). Worth every penny. We will be back for sure.
