My husband and I stayed a Sunday and Monday night in September at the resort. It was the perfect, relaxing get-away that we were hoping. It was extremely peaceful and quiet. The pool and hot tub area was great, as was the spa, the view from the balcony, the friendly and helpful staff and the workout room. They have many miles of well-manicured hiking trails around the property that were terrific (it's hilly...so be prepared for a workout!). We enjoyed a meal at the main restaurant, as well as their pub food as we watched a game at the pub/bar the second night.
We went to the House on the Rock, and walked through two parts one day, and the third part the next day, which worked well (thanks to a prior reviewer who gave this suggestion). We also found a gem of a cave (Cave of the Mounds) nearby.
There were some reviewers who complained about the age of the hotel. It was not build or remodeled very recently, but that did not make it bad. It is very well-maintained and was well designed. We liked the large suit layout of the rooms, and especially appreciated the heavy (surely expensive) wood doors separating the bedroom from the bathroom from the sitting room. I could get up early and get ready in the bathroom with the TV on in the other room, and no noise could be heard in the bedroom to disturb my husband.
My husband likes to golf, although he didn't play while we were at the resort, but he thought the course looked terrific, too.
