“outstanding Autumn delight!”

My wife and I stayed Columbus day weekend at this resort. Although I am not a golfer I can see this location is a golfers paradise with the numerous courses on the grounds. We went to visit House on the Rocks, the main attraction. Also available was a tour to the Frank Lloyd Wright home which is highly recommended. Cave in the mounds is a short drive away and all the close by communities are clean neat and charming. The leaves were just changing but the views from any of the rooms are spectacular! The food was good and in a reasonable price range, the pools were great, and my wife said she really enjoyed the spa. Our only complaint was the bar closed a little early. We met some friends later in the evening and would have enjoyed talking over a drink without having to leave the resort but the bar closed before 10:00.this was a very minor inconvenience considering how great the rest of the stay was. WE are already looking forward to our next visit.

Room Tip: All the rooms have a good view, but try to get one close to the lobby.

I stayed at the House on the Rock Resort last month for a friend's wedding. Some things I really enjoyed, and others I didn't.

I enjoyed that the rooms were clean and had a microwave and refrigerator. The resort itself doesn't sell beer or wine except for in the bar, so if you're planning on drinking at all in the room make sure to plan ahead (the nearest grocery store wasn't easy to find). The wedding I attended was nice and it was super convenient to be staying on the same property. I can't imagine trying to drive those winding roads of Spring Green in the dark.

The property itself has seen better days. The rooms are very dated, and the mattress was so hard I would guess it also hasn't been updated in decades. I wasn't able to sleep well on such a rock hard bed and lumpy pillows. The hotel also had very poor cell phone reception, but luckily I didn't need to make any calls - the rates they charge to make outgoing calls seemed outrageous.

My favorite part of this hotel stay was the golf course view from the balcony. During the day it was peaceful and scenic, and at night it was so dark we could see all the stars. If the hotel made the effort to modernize the hotel a little I would definitely be back.

Beware: Google Maps will send you to an empty field instead of this hotel! It happened to me and many of my friends. Once you get on the golf course property, just keep an eye out for the registration sign and give up on the GPS. :)

This resort is fairly comfortable and welcoming, but very dated in decor and appointments. The suites are roomy and the beds reasonably comfortable. Food in the attached restaurant is decent. The spa is also nicely finished and may be the only one within a 30-mile radius of Spring Green. 2 swimming pools are available - 1 indoor and 1 out. The workout facility is fairly comprehensive for it's small size.

This Resort is, as many reviewers indicated, somewhat of a step into the past. The rooms, although extremely clean, have a "past ear" feel to them in design (Frank Lloyd Wright) and decoration. If you are looking for a place to watch TV and access the internet for work or games, this is not the place for you. The TV's are old and analog. The available internet is "spotty", with great coverage in some rooms, and absolutely none in others. Cell phone service throughout is very poor (Verizon) to non-existent (AT&T) depending on your carrier, as the Resort is somewhat remote, and sits in a valley. On the other hand, there are 27 holes of beautiful and well-maintained golf course, and the restaurant on site provides excellent, tasty and well prepared meals. There are two indoor pools -- one for lap swimming and one for just enjoying the water -- and a hot tub. Tennis courts are available. Lots of great walking paths, trails, and roads. The beds are comfortable (although the pillows are not), and it is exceptionally quiet for sleeping. Although we do not have any at this time in our lives, I do not think this would be a good place for younger children as there is very little to do in the immediate area. Spring Green is 10 minutes away, and, other than a few good restaurants, there is not much to do there. The Wisconsin River is close, however, and kayak and canoe rentals available. The staff is average to good in terms of being helpful and attentive. All in all a great place for a wedding, golf, or quiet couples stay, but if you are looking for a modern atmosphere, business meeting, or a working vacation, this is likely not the place. Normal rates are high for what you get, but there are many specials and "bargains" available for groups.

Room Tip: All rooms have beautiful golf course views and balconies. The room set-ups vary according to bed ty...

We had a business meeting with 45 people attending. Everyone was very pleased with the location and facility. The rooms were nice and we had beautiful views from our balconies. The resort is located in a very peaceful rural area - great opportunity to relax. The food in the restaurant was excellent and the wait staff was very attentive. The golf course was beautiful and we had an excellent day on the course.

This place was pricey for what it was. While the room was very clean and large, the bedding was old and pilled, there was no information in the room - not even a brochure explaining the amenities. The location was ideal for the American Players Theater and the shuttle was appreciated but the service was poor. The front desk people seemed less than thrilled with their jobs. The most annoying part though was the complete inavailability of anything to eat which we found odd because it is a resort and far removed from town. Upon returning from the play at 11:00 PM, we were told the kitchens had closed at 10:00, the gift shop had only a few candy bars and the vending machines were almost empty.

My husband and I stayed a Sunday and Monday night in September at the resort. It was the perfect, relaxing get-away that we were hoping. It was extremely peaceful and quiet. The pool and hot tub area was great, as was the spa, the view from the balcony, the friendly and helpful staff and the workout room. They have many miles of well-manicured hiking trails around the property that were terrific (it's hilly...so be prepared for a workout!). We enjoyed a meal at the main restaurant, as well as their pub food as we watched a game at the pub/bar the second night.

We went to the House on the Rock, and walked through two parts one day, and the third part the next day, which worked well (thanks to a prior reviewer who gave this suggestion). We also found a gem of a cave (Cave of the Mounds) nearby.

There were some reviewers who complained about the age of the hotel. It was not build or remodeled very recently, but that did not make it bad. It is very well-maintained and was well designed. We liked the large suit layout of the rooms, and especially appreciated the heavy (surely expensive) wood doors separating the bedroom from the bathroom from the sitting room. I could get up early and get ready in the bathroom with the TV on in the other room, and no noise could be heard in the bedroom to disturb my husband.

My husband likes to golf, although he didn't play while we were at the resort, but he thought the course looked terrific, too.
