I travel all over Wisconsin and I've dined at many supper clubs over the years and Nightingale is excellent! It's the classic old style feel without feeling rundown. The place is well taken care of, from the carpet and paneling to the bar and seating, no chairs are ripped, no tables falling apart no paneling coming off the walls, it may be left over from the 70's but it's maintained that way. So no, to other reviewers suggesting that they update their appearance, you simply don't get what the supper club experience is all about. Nightingale does this very well.
Now on to the food. This was a fishing weekend with 3 of us and we all had different meals but we shared 3 appetizers...artichoke dip, bacon wrapped scallions and stuffed mushrooms. All 3 were excellent! My dinner started with a basic salad, nothing extraordinary but the lettuce was fresh and crisp. My main course was surf and turf and both the steak and lobster were cooked to perfection. The second meal was the perch dinner which he said was excellent and the third meal was the 20 something ounce prime rib. I've seen my share of excellent prime rib and this was way up there on the list. The guy that ordered it orders prime rib regularly and from places that specialize in prime rib and he thought that Nightingale's was excellent. Finally, two of us finished off dinner with basic cheesecake that was also very good.
Now put this all together with a better than average wine and beer list and an excellent waitstaff and you have a fantastic evening in store. Our waitress was awesome...friendly, quick and accommodating. She could not have been better.
I realize that even the best restaurants can have the occasional issue and I'm sure Nightingale has had their share but to give a negative review because someone feels that the place seems old and needs updating or that the menu isn't unique enough is a real shame. It's not a huge menu and most supper clubs don't have big menus but what Nightingale's menu does offer is done very, very well. If you're not familiar with the supper club experience, don't look at this place as "stuck in the 70's", enjoy it for what it really is, a step back in time when things were simple. A great meal at a reasonable price served up with a smile and a great personality. Excellent!
