“Closed their business...”
Reviewed 3 November 2013 via mobile

It was always a favorite! We will miss the great foods! Where will we get perfect German dishes now? I hope the old train station finds new business owners who want a resraurant.

“Enjoyable Evening”
Reviewed 4 September 2013

Six of us ended the summer with a great dinner at The Old Stag. All of our meals were delicious and our waiter, Lee, was very pleasant and knowledgeable. The food was not rushed but was served in a perfect time frame and the portions were ample. My pork was so tender I could cut it with a fork and the red cabbage was excellent. I will definitely return again and recommend it for a nice evening out.

“Our new favorite”
Reviewed 19 August 2013

Great German food! The restaurant was recommended by a friend who said it was as good as the German restaurants in Milwaukee. After trying it, I have to agree. The Birch Forest Schnitzel was wonderful - a great schnitzel topped with a wine sauce. Liver dumpling soup was first rate. And the red cabbage brought back memories of my grandmother's recipe. My husband had the Wiener Schnitzel, and was impressed as well.

The portions are very generous (half of mine went home with me to be enjoyed the next day). Our server was friendly, helpful and attentive. We will be back again - and again - not only for more great German food, but to try some of the "northwoods favorites" as well.

“Best Food in the area”
Reviewed 27 June 2013

If you want high quality food with excellent preparation this is the place. Their specialties are German food but the American dishes are also excellent. Four of us went there a week ago and we are still talking about the place. Two of us had the maple duck and it was fantasitic (asked for the red cabbage and spaetzle as sides with it) and was the best duck we had ever had. One had the saurbratten and it also was very good and a nice large portion. Our tame diner ordered a pecan crusted chicken breast with a cream sauce and it was very very goood.
The place is small and quiet so very nice for a dinner conversation. If you want some really good food at reasonable prices go to the Old Stag.

“Not to be missed”
Reviewed 25 June 2013

We've driven by The Old Stag many times driving between Eagle River and Three Lakes and decided on a whim to stop for dinner. What a great surprise this was! Everything was exceptionally good - the liver dumpling soup was amazing, as was the Jaeger Schnitzel. It is hard to find an exceptionally good pork tenderloin and this one did not disappoint. Service was somewhat slow, but friendly and the meal was worth the wait. I've already texted a friend and asked him to meet me here again later in the week!
