“Lark Inn- wonderful place to stay, drive right by the big highway chains to stay here!”
Reviewed 9 September 2013

We always seek out old-timey places like this and bypass the big chains. The Lark Inn is by far one of the nicest old time, family run places we have found. The motel grounds are very well tended and inviting. The room itself was spotless, don't know that I have ever found a motel room so clean. The room also had everything that was needed, again very well done. The folks in the office were friendly, very nice and it was clear they care about their motel and its guests. You just don't find that anymore. The office serves as the breakfast room but includes a small convenience store in case guests forget anything. All the way around, I recommend this place very highly!!

Room Tip: Can park right outside the motel rooms and the cabins, back right up to unload luggage at both.

Trying to find a fair priced hotel near Madison is challenging, however, the Lark Inn is fairly priced. It is a little off the beaten path, and you have to know it is there in order to find it.

This is the older style motel with outside entrances. The outside looks nice and the grounds are well kept. There is a trailer park adjacent to the backside of the motel; however, there didn't seem to be any noise coming from that area.

We have stayed here 2 times. The rooms we have slept in have been small to crowded: has a TV Stand, a luggage rack holder, a small table with 2 chairs, a night stand--all in a very small space. The sink is outside the shower/toilet area, so one can use the mirror while another is showering.

Internet is provided, as well as cable TV.

The decor is early American and dated. I wondered if the quilts they use on the bed are ever washed but I did not bother asking. My guess is they are not. The bed itself is not firm, but okay for one night. It is either a full size or a queen, not sure which. Price would definitely be the driver for us if we decide to stay here again; however I may call to find out more about their housekeeping routines before staying again.

You can get a free cinnamon roll for breakfast from the gas-mart that is connected with the motel, but for full meals one has to drive approx a mile to a restaurant.

Room Tip: If space is important, ask for their larger rooms.

Historic property, with both traditional rooms in a park-at-your-door facility and a number of log cabins of varying sizes. It's been owned and operated by the same family for decades, and the love they have for what they do really shows. This place is truly a throwback to the days when people cared about their guests. You can't buy that kind of friendliness for money. We found the heritage room comfortable, the cabin truly delightful. Be sure to check out the old photographs, and don't miss the freshly baked cinnamon rolls at breakfast.

We are so thrilled that you have enjoyed your stays with us at Lark Inn. We truly do care about each and every guest and your comfort is our greatest concern. I have to admit that I enjoy decorating the rooms as much as you enjoy staying in them. We like to be different and it is our choice not to be a “branded” motel so that we can do our own thing. When I get a good idea, I don’t want to be told that I can’t provide it for our guests for any reason. We have done a considerable amount of traveling and research and we keep a keen eye on the necessary amenities and eliminate costly unnecessary items that just boost the cost to the traveling public. Thank you for noticing that your comfort is our concern and for assuring others that private, independently owned motels can sill be perfect for your travels.

We stayed for two nights in the two bedroom cabin. Between the cozy rustic decor and privacy from other occupants, where our children could play without being hushed, we had a fantastic time. The beds were a very healthy size, and free rentals meant a movie night with the kids! The only downside was the continental breakfast, which did not offer much in the way of choice. However, for the price and comfort it was a wonderful stay. We will definitely come back!

We have stayed at the Lark Inn several times, and have enjoyed our visit each time. We have stayed in the log cabins and also in Heritage Rooms. The log cabins are comfortable and very well decorated. The Heritage rooms are great for a overnight stay, they are not huge rooms, but very reasonably priced. We have found all of the rooms at the Lark Inn to be nicely decorated and very clean. If a person is looking for a very large room, they have the Country Doubles and the Suites available. The owner/management seem sincerely concerned about pleasing the guests and request input from guests concerning what concerns or improvements the guest may have. We highly recommend the Lark Inn.

While doing a circle tour of Lake Superior we stumbled upon this delightful gem of the past days of cross country travel. A "motor" inn extremely well maintained and spotless condition well off the interstate on the state highway in town. clean and cheery, the vintage sized rooms were in great condition w/ modern fridges,TVs and microwaves. coffee shop and a well stocked convenience store attached along w/ gas pumps. Very friendly morning crew of TJ and Carol during the complimentary continental breakfast. Great find!

Room Tip: the rooms are different all decorated w/ Amish quilts. bathroom spotless but smallish. mattress grea...

Isn’t it great to discover something a little different on your travels? My husband and I are just as delighted when we discover a unique property that we never forget, even if we are never able to return that area again. We are pleased that you discovered us and enjoyed your stay. It is our pleasure to create that special memory in everyone’s travels. That is the fun in being an innkeeper and we have enjoyed owning this wonderful little property for over thirty-five years, during which we have continued to make improvements each and every year.
