“Beautiful and fun!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 January 2014

We stayed in one of the cottages far from the main lodge. The cottage was small, but nice, cozy. There was a nice-sized screened-in patio facing the lake, but being winter we really appreciated the gas fireplace. It gave quite a bit of warmth. The only negative was that the heater was in the main room. If you shut the two bedroom doors, you block off the heat. Otherwise, it was a very warm, comfy cottage. The house we visited was large with many bedrooms. Gas fireplaces also and updated, clean kitchens and nice decks. The hotel guest rooms were also nice and average size. The lodge was beautiful. There are two massive stone fireplaces, two sitting areas, a large patio overlooking the lake, and downstairs there was a game room, which included and xbox and wii, and a bar, downstairs. The dining room was large and open with a wall of windows overlooking the lake and the food was very good. There was also tubing, broomball and icefishing available. The skis and snowshoes were free of charge. There are miles of trails. It was beautiful. It was expensive, but I'd love to go again. I've been told that it is even more incredible in the summer. -- It's also far from everything. If you want to run into town, its going to be a 20 to 30 minute trip.

Room Tip: The cottages were the farthest from the lodge, but not particularly private since they're close...

We went at the Heartwood over Christmas for a family reunion. Unfortunately, almost everything about our stay was disappointing. When I made the reservation for 2 nights, I was informed, they charge one night stay as a deposit, right off the bat. I was not thrilled by this, but said okay, fine. We got to the heartwood, late, after being on horrible roads for over 3 hours (this place is literally in the middle of nowhere). When we arrived to the lobby, we found it dark and locked, with a note on the door, telling me to look in the phone box next to the door, and that would be where I would find our room keys! The envelope included a map showing us where our room was, but that not very helpful, considering it was snowing, dark and no signs to tell you where to go. We spent another 30 minutes looking for our room. We finally found the room, and it seemed to be clean enough and was fine, an average hotel room. My family was staying in one of their cabins down the road, so we then had to drive there. The cabin was nice, but I wish it would have been handicapped accessible for my aunt.
The next day, I was pleasantly surprised that our room had been cleaned and made up.
On the day we checked out, there was not a receipt under the door about our bill and no one had made any contact with us in any way, shape or form, to ask about our stay or if we needed anything.
We never saw or spoke to anyone throughout our stay. It would have been nice if they were not going to be there when we checked in, to communicate that with us, as they had my phone number and e-mail. Personally, I would not stay here again, based on our experiences.

We are sorry to hear of your disappointment, but happy to hear you were able to have a getaway during the hectic holiday time of year. We did try to give Heartwood associates some precious time off during light occupancy, but am sorry that didn't meet your expectations during this stay. Please keep Heartwood in mind for your future getaways, as a break from the stress of everyday life is rewarding!

The property is wonderful in every way but I still don't understand the food situation. I must have missed something because no other reviews mention it. I stayed one night and luckily the restaurant was serving from 5pm to 9pm. No breakfast in the morning so I'm glad I had a room with a kitchenette and brought some food. Can anyone clarify?

This is my favorite place to vacation ! :) The main lodge is breathtaking inside and the other towo also offer fitness rooms and lobby areas to gather with freinds. The grounds are immaculate not to mention how beautiful the trails are. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The view from every room is breathtaking...you're either looking at woods or a lake and a very well kept lawn and common areas. with so much to do indoors and out ...from hiking, swimming, canoeing, and at night they have a lodge bar with pool and ping pong and board games and food. In Wisconsin near lots of other recreational lakes and golf courses to choose from with in a 15-30 minute drive. Well worth the drive! Lynn :)

Room Tip: Suites have full kitchen facilities.

Went there for a "destination" wedding......AMAZING grounds, many acres, activities, clean rooms, friendly staff......everything was first rate! REALLY not an easy place to find as signage in Trego is ZILCH......It is out in the "boonies" on a gravel road but oh so beautiful and restful. This a property owned by Trivent for Lutherans.

Room Tip: Get a good MAP!

Was here for a business conference that included a lot of fun resort extras like a canoe ride, hayride and dinner and drinks in the main lodge's Eagles Nest. The resort is remote and lacks every bell and whistle but the staff is friendly and helpful and the rooms were clean and well equipped. All our meals on site were very good. It wouldn't be an ideal vacation spot for my family, but it is an idyllic place if you love the outdoors, nature and a quiet getaway.

Everyone there was very pleasant Travis the chef was great. He did a fantastic job with our meals. The rooms were nice and clean and when we went tubing Jimbo made sure that we were all taken care of and dropped us back off at the front of our room. The front desk staff was very friendly and accommodating. The only downfall to the trip was the ticks and bugs were bad but they can't control that. We love heartwood and we defiantly will be back.
