Reading a couple of the reviews here I'm reminded of why working with "the public" is so horrible--there's always going to be some full-of-himself whiner whose impossible expectations have not been met (think "the guy that takes five minutes to order at Starbucks").

That said, Machut's is great FOR WHAT IT IS (a Wisconsin supper club--not a chic five star metrosexual hang out). The people are nice, the food is decent, and the setting is classic (and clean). It's best when it is NOT filled with Chicago people headed to Door County to gawk at the leaves and to find fault with everything they encounter along the way.

We like to find what's a Wisconsin specialty...the old school "supper club" and this fit the bill!
Relaxing place to sit and have a cocktail then enjoy a good meal. Steak was cooked perfectly and their large salad bar had a lot of choices. One favorite not often seen, liver pâté, was delicious
We'd return on our next trip to the area

The atmosphere: Walking into this restaurant is like walking into a bad time warp that brings one back into the 1970's...at least. It is in horrible need of a makeover.
The seating system: When you walk in and wish to order, you will be told that you will need to order at the bar, or at a table by the bar. You will be given a number. There is a "number board" above the archway to the dining room which you will then need to watch. When your table is ready sometime later it will display your number, along with the table's number that you are assigned to sit at. At that point, you are then notified that your table is ready, or you have to let someone at the bar know that your number is up and you are generally left to seat yourself. I have read some reviews that have described this feature as "charming" or as a "hoot." While it may be to some, you must ask yourself - do you want to sit at the bar every time you go out to eat, before you eat? In addition to this, it also delays your meal. And no, the bartenders do not always let you know when your table is ready, so you have to watch that board closely if you don't want to be stuck at the bar/bar table. Simply put - it would be nice to have the option to go straight into the dining room upon arrival and order from the table.
The food/menu: There are typical staples such as broasted chicken, steak, fish, prime rib, some seafood, and greasy appetizers. The food is a HUGE disappointment. Although they seem to have a large enough of a menu, the quality is lacking. Butter and paprika seem to be the cook's go-to flavoring/seasoning that is used on EVERYTHING. Really. The food is just blah, or greasy. The salad bar is very cafeteria style, and I have to wonder how clean it is, with everyone reaching over the food, touching things, and even bringing the same used plate back up for seconds. Yuck.
The service: The waitstaff is generally good when I have been there. The owners - that is a different story. It is a family run business. When I go out to eat, I don't want to hear about the family's problems, and who doesn't like who. It's ridiculous.
***With all of this said, I don't go to this restaurant on my own accord. I end up going there because of meetings or family gatherings. Also, this is the first review I have ever written. I don't usually complain about things; I simply don't have the heart to or the time. Chef Gordon Ramsey from 'Kitchen Nightmares' needs to check this place out!

This is a fun place .. you place your order for dinner at the bar and when you see your assigned number come up on an electronic wall board - you go find your assigned table number and your dinner is served... what a hoot. Haven't been here in a few years but the several times we ate here it was great. Sunday broasted chicken dinners are to die for... great flavor. Good solid salad bar. A very popular local place and always busy. Good for families with small children and those on a budget too. We like Machut's ... and it's not pronounced as it appears - it's pronounced Ma-coots ... enjoy .. it's one of Wisconsin's Supper Clubs.

This is by far the best Friday Fish dinner place in Wisconsin! Both the Perch, and the Alaskan Haddock are perfectly prepared. (Broasted). I recommend the salad bar as well.
They also have excellent broasted chicken on Sundays. If you go say hello to Scott who is the head bartender, and he can recommend a good beer or two. The steak here is also excellent, my friend always get this Tips, and my parents always get the Scallops. If it is not Friday or Sunday night, I recommend the sirloin steak for 2 !
