“A confused hotel in need of remodeling.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 January 2013

The hotel is no longer a Super 8 but apparently someone forgot to change the signage throughout the hotel.

The hotel definitely shows its age and needs updating.

The entry has no smoking posted clearly at the door but the entry and reception area has a persistent ash tray smell to it.

The rooms are acceptable with better then average internet connection. Beds are acceptable. Hotel was mostly empty for the night so was hard to judge sound proof.

Room Tip: No elevator so if first floor is nice.

we just stayed at this property last weekend. i can't say enough about the people working there. especially RILEY. we had a mix up on our reservation, thought we had made it is washburn, but had made it in ashland. even though it was a busy weekend, and he was obviously very patiently training in a coworker. he offered us a main for room for the night, lent us the phone to cancel ashland, then, later on in the evening confirmed another night for us. helpful and friendly and accommodating are the word to describe riley. the room was huge, two queen beds, clean, the basics in the bathroom. i was travelling with my over 80 parents. quiet, very quiet all around. the hotel is almost on the the water in a residential neighborhood. the only thing around is The Steak Pit, you can walk right there and enjoy a wonderful lunch or dinner. i had the best hamburger i had tasted in a very long time. my mother loved her white fish fillet. a very nice restaurant. and there is a decent breakfast at the hotel too, that comes with the price of the room. many items to chose from. all in all i would highly recommend this super 8 too anyone looking for a quiet place near bayfield (12mi) and near the water.

After reading some of the reviews here I wanted to add our comments. We stayed at this hotel in September of 2009 and thought it was very overpriced. For a little over $100 you get a bed (which you have to wonder about sleeping in) and not much more. Basically it was dirty, the shower was not clean, the "Continental Breakfast" was bland and not something you would recommend, and the coffee was cold. Nothing was working when we were there - sounds like nothing has changed - keep driving or sleep in your car!

My husband and I took a long weekend car trip and decided to stay the night. We found the Super 8 with a great lake view. We were tired and hungry and thought it would be ok for one night. Well, first off, the room rate was off the page for such an older motel. The frotn desk gal was very nice and welcomed us. The room was old and smelled of smoke. The bed was so hard it felt like board was underneath us. The pillows were torn and the stuffing was coming out. The hot tub was broken and not in working order. Continental breakfast.. you would be better erved going to a McDonalds! The view was lovely and actually the "Steak Pit" next door was pretty good for dinner. But drive a little further and you will find much better accomodations!

The hotel had the location we wanted for a one night stay. The hotel was in better shape than i expected, but i feel very overpriced for what you get. The room was clean which was a plus, but the hotel is very old so it has that "old motel" smell. The continental breakfast was disappointing, cereal, packaged donuts and bagels. If i had planned ahead i would have definately looked for other lodging, but this was a last minute trip. One good thing is that the hotel does have free wifi, which i believe it a must at any hotel these days. Overall i was happy that our room was clean and air conditioned, just would have liked to paid a lower price!!

Do yourself a favor and drive to Bayfield. I can't believe how expensive this place is. The photos are WAY nicer than the place. The whole place smells like cigarettes and disinfectent. The hotel shares a parking lot with the steak pit. If you like to sleep in forget it. The curtains block hardly and light and people's dogs are barking in the morning. The bed is hardly that, I've slept on cots more comfortable. The towels are like super fine sand paper and all the furniture is peeling and old. Bathroom fixtures are rusting and grout is molding. Oh ya and the hot tub is out broken. Sad just very sad hopefully they will tear it down soon, so it stops blocking the view or the harbor.

I was actually surprised the hotel was nicer than I expected & remembered from staying there years ago. There were 3 of us & had a room w/2 dbls & a roll-a-way. The double beds were comfie it appeard to me that the hotel had recently renovated their rooms to include new carpet as well as new bedding. The roll-away was old and not very comfie at all--but what roll-away is. The only down side's were the hot tub was not working well not sure what the problem was but didnt really make or break my stay. Also the Cont. Breakfast was moderate too many sugary foods for my taste. The only other concern was that they do not have an elevator, which was kind of an issue for my dad who has a bad hip, no first floor rooms were available when we checked in...I should have done some more research on this but really didnt think of it since most hotels have elevators.

I would reccommend this for a short stay as long as your not expecting the Ritz you'll be fine.
