First time in Wausau to ski at Granite Peak (which was amazing) stayed two nights during Christmas week. Unfortunately the hotel was far from amazing. It was friendly, clean and accommodating but they did not exceed my expectations. The infrastructure is confusing, even though there is adequate signage, there are long hallways with multiple (slow) elevators that take you into retail and office space. A walkway into a parking garage which is nice if the weather is inclement, but even the parking system is confusing. Self park only in two lots; and pay an extra $3 / night for. But remember to NOT park in a reserved spot or if there is a meter or is it metered is ok and reserved is not? I still don't know.
Front desk runs everything; reservations; housekeeping; concierge and just about everything else. Friendly and accommodating but not stellar a long way from a five star resort.
Rooms were very clean, new, fresh with coffe makers with Starbucks coffee and Aveda products in the bathrooms.
The City Grill is far from being a big city restaurant; dinner was above average and that buffet breakfast was an absolute joke - seriously bad - embarrassingly bad.
Overall basic accommodations nothing more.More
