Hamilton House is beautiful, elegant, comfortable and quiet. Kathleen the innkeeper does everything to make sure you feel at home and that you have all your needs met. I have come here ten times to run various races in the area. It's the perfect spot to get a great night's sleep before a race, and it's the perfect spot to unwind after a run. There's a fantastic book selection too and great food. It's also a very romantic get away!

Room Tip: The Monet is on the ground floor and has a soaking tub - perfect for sore post-race legs. There is...

I stayed and the B&B for 7 days during new years and let me tell you that place is incredible. The rooms are so wonderful decorated and immaculate. I was there on a business trip and the owners will make you feel at home. They will go out of their way to accommodate your needs, Cable TV, Internet, (business trip I need all that ).I will highly recommended even if you are going on a business trip it is worth it. It is extremely relaxing after a long day at work.

So . . . we just stayed at Hamilton House for two nights over the weekend. The quality of this place is top notch. The house is unique with interesting history, immaculate decorating and painting without all those gross doilies regular in old houses, and quite romantic.

In regards to the unrealistic 2 star rating, the discount thing may have been socially uncomfortable for the writer, but I doubt that the host really downgraded the room with a price increase and wasn't willing to have a conversation about it. The service simply is not 1 star, 4 . . . maybe on a bad day. Breakfast was fun to talk with the hostess and other guests, made us feel very at home. The food was gourmet, but not a buffet from Country Kitchen for those so us who are used to eating to gain weight in WI. Regarding the other subpar unrealistic ratings, the location is what it is. How do you stay at a place in a town that is quaint on the main street all the while well knowing what it is like ahead of time and then give location a 1 star? A 1 star for the rooms rating is a lie. Look at the online pics.

My only qualm is the price: it is steep. We stayed at a small downgrade from this place in Green Lake with a jacuzzi for $89/night.

We have stayed here several times. It keeps getting better and better. Our reason for coming to Whitewater is to be with family. With family comes highs and lows, sometimes we need to change reservations and sometimes we need to change things at the last minute, Kathleen handles our crises with ease. Her breakfasts are always something we look forward to as they are going to be something different and very enjoyable. There's always tea, coffee or soda on hand during the day. It's like this is an extention of your own home. Nice touches of cookies or wine left out at night. I could go on and on. You really have to experience this for yourself. If you do have a few moments for yourself --- with our busy family schedule is hard --- read what other people wrote about staying in that particular room dedicated to a painter.
Kathleen is very knowledgable about what's going on in town, too. She can tell you where to find things. At one point, she called someone late to keep his store open as my husband needed something. What a resourse!!! As you can tell, we really like our stays at the Hamilton House!

Room Tip: There's not much traffic at night so don't be worry about Main Street. Rooms are large and...

My husband and I and our daughter (11), just returned from a weekend stay at the Hamilton House. We were in town for the Wisconsin High School Music Association Marching Band Competition (by the way, go Marching Wildcats from River Falls - we took 1st place!) Anyway -- Hamilton House was great! It's a beautiful old house near the UW-Whitewater campus, with nice modern updates (Wi-Fi, whirlpool tubs, etc.). Kathie is warm and welcoming, breakfast was delicious. What impressed me most was Kathie's attention to detail. We had asked for a late arrival time and a rollaway bed for our daughter, and then a "to-go" breakfast on the morning we checked out. Kathie remembered all these details, including having our daughter's bed all made up and waiting for her on our first night. Just don't tell too many people about the Hamilton House, because I want to come back again next fall to watch the Marching Wildcats again (OK, OK, I'm a proud mom!) Enjoy!

Room Tip: Degas suite was large and easily accommodated the rollaway bed.

I stayed in Hamilton House for a week in late August 2011. The care and attention of the Innkeeper Kathleen was very much appreciated. Nothing was too much trouble for her. Breakfast on each day was different, always delicious. At night there was always a carafe of wine and cookies as a nightcap left for me.A nice touch! The room called "The Edouard Manet" was very comfortable and quiet, furnished with luxurious appointments and exquisite attention to detail. The bathroom was en-suite and had top quality amenities. My room had a view to the Main Street and the windows were double glazed.. The house itself, which is very handsome with its intricate woodwork, is one of Whitewater's oldest and most historic,( it apparently was used during the civil war as part of the slave underground railroad and still has a number of secret tunnels) has been completely restored and despite the abundance of antique and valuable furniture was extremely comfortable. I really felt welcome and and at home. A truly memorable visit.

My wife and I celebrated our 10 year anniversary at the Hamilton House. We'd never stayed at a B&B before so we didn't know how other reviews would compare to reality. Well, we weren't disappointed!

We were greeted at the door by Kathy and she showed us around the place and gave us our key. We were off to a theater production at the Fireside in Fort Atkinson and Kathy gave us a shortcut on how to get there.

Upon return, we enjoyed a bottle of champagne (provided by the Hamilton House (HH)) and soaked in the atmosphere of the room. We stayed in the Degas room, which was the largest in the HH.

Besides an extremely comfortable king-size bed, there was a fireplace, sitting area, and huge bathroom.

The next morning coffee was provided to us at our requested time, then an hour later breakfast was served to us in our room. The coffee was served in thermos type pots so the coffee stayed hot while we poured 2nd and 3rd cups. The breakfast was delicious, which included eggs, sausage, pineapple (in its own container), fruit (on the plate), juice and cookies.

When it came time to check out, Kathy offered to help if we wanted it. She also took pictures of us by the majestic staircase - as a memento of our stay.

The only MINOR negative was loud voice outside at times, and I attribute that to college students since the campus is just blocks away.

Overall, if you're looking to stay in the Whitewater area, I'd recommend you look at the Hamilton House as a serious choice for your stay.
