Alakai Hotel and Suites

I stay at the Alakai Hotel every time I'm in Wisconsin Dells and have always enjoyed it. They have a large indoor pool area with a sauna and hot tub and an outdoor pool area as well. The staff is friendly and helpful and they keep the hotel pretty quiet at night despite the fact the city is often overrun during the summer by screaming kids! I'd definitely recommend this place to anyone and particularly families looking for a quieter place to relax that the kids will still be able to enjoy...

Nice, clean hotel with a comfortable and laid back atmosphere. I spent most of the time in the pool (which is heated, I think, because it was kind of chilly that weekend). The help was really nice and knew the area (we did some tourist-ey things around the dells). Perfect atmosphere if you want to avoid all the hustle and bustle of the other places around the Dells.

We have stayed at some of the bigger hotels, and wanted to try something smaller/cheaper as we didn't plan on spending much time at the hotel. No restaurant onsite, but a couple restaurants were within walking distance.

The pros: fridge/micro in room, overall very clean (including pool areas) they let you bring pool toys (as long as they don't soak up water). Indoor pool open till 11pm. Easy to keep track of the kids as the large indoor pool, hot tub and indoor shallow play area with spray fountains and 2 small water slides (perfect for younger kids) were all in the same area. Outdoor pool was smaller but had 3 short slides (in about 4 feet of water). We stayed Sun - Tues and never had to share the pools with more than one other family. Lots of chairs available. We paid about $80/night, found a special rate on their website.

Cons: no continental breakfast, bring your own pool towels, sometimes you had to wait for the person at the desk if you needed anything (like extra pillows or something). 10:30 am check out time. No coffee pot in the room (they did have morning coffee in the lobby).

Teenagers expecting a big water park type hotel would probably be bored. But our 10 year old and 3 year old loved it. We traveled with another family and they thought it worked out well also. We would stay there again.

I was looking for an inexpensive hotel for my family with a nice pool area, and Alakai seemed to fit the bill. When we got there the lady at the desk was not at all friendly. Also, the pool areas are MUCH smaller than they appear to be in the photos. That wasn't a huge deal for us though, as we have small children. We had a days worth of activities planned and were hoping to swim before check-out the next day. Only to find out that the pool areas don't open until AFTER check-out. Bummer! As we were on our way out the door that evening for one of our activities, the toilet overflowed for no particular reason. My husband went to tell them at the front desk and the lady said, "I can give you some towels to clean it up". Huh? Isn't that YOUR job? He told her he was in a hurry (we were already running late), so she said "well just stop back up here when you get back and pick up some towels". Whatever. When we got back, we found that all the water from the floor was soaked into the carpet outside of the bathroom. My husband went to get the lady at the desk and she came down with her arm full of towels. He explained to her that we have a baby that crawls everywhere and we really don't want her to crawl in that and asked her if there was a different room we could have. Despite the neon VACANCY sign and the EMPTY parking lot, she said there was nothing else and that the floor would be dry by morning. There was NO WAY that that soaking wet floor would be dry by morning.. and it wasn't. When we checked out, there was a different person at the desk so my husband went in to express our dissatisfaction again. The man at the counter was just as rude, if not more so, than the lady the night before. I would NEVER stay at this hotel again! Do yourself a favor and check around. In this type of business, customer service is HUGE, and this place just DOES NOT have it!

We went to the Alakai Hotel because it was described as being a great place for children under 10 years old. We have a toddler and an infant. We were very excited about the slides and the pool being 0 depth for our 5 month old to sit in. That part of it was great. Our toddler loved the slides! There were a lot of parts of the indoor pool that did not work however. We got yelled at when we brought our young children into the hot tub for a minute! There were rules posted everywhere about what you could not do. For example, you couldn't use the ice for your cooler. The sign said that they would charge you $10 to fill up your cooler. We were already paying $440 for their so called two room luxury suite! You couldn't bring toys that absorbed water into the indoor pool. The information in the room said that the outdoor pool opened at 8am. When the water had not been turned on yet at 8:30am, we went and asked the man at the desk. He said it wasn't opening until 9am and that we wouldn't want to go out there anyway. We had to beg them to turn on the water in the indoor pool at least and then wait until 9am for the outdoor pool. When we showed them all the information packets in the room that said that it opened at 8am, they said that they had to let the chemicals take effect! Excuses! We didn't even get our room serviced!!! I would not recommend this hotel to anyone! Not a fun relaxing vacation like we had hoped.

My wife and I stayed at the hotel while visiting the Dells. It is a "no frills" type of place...But that's exactly what we were looking for, being we knew most of our time would be spent at the various attractions through out the Dell's area. The room was clean, the staff was kind and helpful. It has both, an indoor and outdoor pool with a sauna and hot tub. The refridgerator and microwave in our room came in handy too..(no extra cost).
Overall it was a very pleassant and comfortable stay. The room rates were in line with what a tourist destination demands for their busy season. We paid $125 per night...And if you look at other competitors in the area, the price can far exceed that amount by hundreds of dollars. I would recommend the Alakai Hotel to my friends and family.

My family and I stayed at this hotel for 5 nights and had an awesome time! Rooms were spotless, pools clean and refreshing in the 90+ heat and staff was super friendly! We will definitely be returning next year for sure!!! A real gem away from the "Main Drag" but super close to it all! A+ to you all!! Thanks for the great time!
