“Second time, still a charm...”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 October 2012

This was our second time at the Glacier Canyon Lodge (Wilderness Resort) in Wisconsin Dells. We (family of two adults, two young children) along with another family (two adults, one young child) had an excellent time. We stayed three nights- a Friday until a Monday in a 3 bedroom/2.5 bath suite. Full kitchen, T.V.s in every bedroom, two of the three bedrooms had a patio, and of course- indoor access to three phenomenal indoor water parks, plus other numerous amenities like arcades, play areas, restaurants/bars, mini golf, etc.
The suite was perfect. Plenty of room for everyone to hang out together, or have thier own space- whatever anyone wanted. Full kitchen complete with tableware, cookware, etc was perfect for families with kids who didn't want to have to go out to eat. Everything clean and comfortable. Don't bring Blu-Rays though, they haven't updated their DVD players yet, but I am sure that's coming...
The indoor waterparks of The Wilderness are so awesome, you do not even realize it's cold outside or that you are inside at all. Great water dome with wave pool, two other water parks with tons of stuff to do- obviously the many water slides were a huge hit, along with the lazy river and the indoor/outdoor hot tubs. Areas for everyone from very small children (think wading area with baby swings) all the up to fantastic slides and huge waves in the wave pool. Plenty to keep everyone busy and happy for days. We loved the fact that you didn't have to go outside at all with all the skyways and corridors available- everyone walking around in swimwear, comfortable as can be.
Other attractions we tried were the arcade, the new sky ropes course, and the giant play structure. Still very fun, without the water. Nice way to mix it up.
We love the Dells and will try to make this a yearly trip- and always to Glacier Canyon Lodge/The Wilderness

Room Tip: We have stayed on both the second and first floors. While having a balcony is nice, we by far prefer...

We went here for a family reunion, and we all (young kids to senior citizens) had a good time. The in-room kitchens (for the rooms that have them) are neither large nor fancy, but served their purpose very well.Packing/preparing your own food is a great way to keep things low-budget.

Some tips:

1) You will be walking - A LOT. This place is like a Vegas casino in size... and actually I think it's bigger. With wet feet from the pool and flip flops, you can expect blisters. So bring the mole-skin or well fitted shoes.

2) I agree with a previous reviewer to request a top floor room to minimize the noise.

3) Also request a room close to the skywalk to save yourself some walking. Won't save much, but it will help.

4) There are not nearly enough luggage carts available during the peak check-in/check-out periods. Start trying to get one a full hour before you try to check out. It took us a good 30 minutes to obtain one during our Sunday morning check-out.

5) From what I've been told, you would be advised against trying to get early check-in (especially on a Thursday, Friday or Saturday). It's just not going to happen. In fact, relatives of mine who have stayed at this resort before have said that sometimes their rooms aren't available yet right at check-in time. So if you get into town early, go grab a bite to eat, or go do Wizard's Quest, or something to kill the time.

We would definitely go again - we had a great time.

Room Tip: Ask for a top floor room as close to the skywalk as possible.

We attended a family wedding this past weekend at this facility and were very impressed. The facility itself was clean, beautifully appointed and the staff first rate! There were around 230 people at this event but with two very professional bartenders we never had to wait in line for a cocktail. A beautiful outdoor seating area for those who'd like to enjoy the view and some conversation only made the experience better. They say that you can tell exceptional service when everything is taken care of but you hardly notice the staff, Glacier Canyon would certainly fall into that catagory.

Wyndham condos are always a great choice for vacations especially as a family. We stayed in a two bedroom deluxe condo and everything was up to date and clean. Loved the amenities of the resort there are none quite like it. I would highly recommend staying here when you visit the dells and if you like to stay at the hotel during your trips you can definitely do that. Cant wait to come back!

This was our first stay at Glacier Canyon, but it was our 8th visit to the Wilderness Resort in the last 12 years. We had a two bedroom deluxe the first night, and since additional family was staying with us the second night, we had an adjoining room with a connecting door the second night. This reservation caused so much trouble, and I have a hard time understanding why it was so difficult for the front desk staff? The person who made the reservation for me over the phone said it was not an uncommon type of reservation. She assured me we would be able to stay in our two bedroom deluxe the second night and just open the connecting door to the second room. Well, the front desk person checking me in felt otherwise, and I had to politely debate her for 30 minutes until we got the reservation we had made.

The worst part was that we were as far as you could be from the front desk in Section 1 (which is a GREAT location for accessing the water parks), and they made up change keys TWICE on Saturday. They said it was because I had to re-check in for the second stay of the original room, and then we needed new keys again when the adjoining room was clean and ready for our additional family. They would not deliver those new keys to us. It was very frustrating when you want to sit with your family and enjoy the day in the waterpark. I kid you not--it is at least a 1/3 mile of a walk to the front desk of the Glacier Canyon from Section 1. Now think about it if you are hanging out in the Water Dome and walking that much further!

As usual, customer service is poor at the resort. The staff is polite, but we've always been treated as though we are so fortunate to be able to stay at the Wilderness. They do NOT act as though they should be thankful for our business! They never have, and due to heavy demand, I am sure they never will.

Since we are veterans of the Wilderness, we know all the pros and cons. Like the regular hotel rooms, the walls between the rooms at Glacier Canyon are paper thin. You hear your neighbors all around you, and of course, the non-stop screaming and running in the halls. I had hoped Glacier Canyon would be of better construction than the regular hotel, but it was not. Also, you will spend a small fortune to eat or drink on site, but with a full kitchen, we made all of our own meals. Actually, all of the restaurants in the Dells are overpriced. It's what happens in a tourist trap. So, I appreciated the full kitchen in Glacier Canyon.

One more complaint. The towels are pathetic and paper thin. Again, I was hoping the quality would be better. Also, you do not get housekeeping during your stay unless you pay extra. I thought that was cheap. They will bring you clean towels and supplies, though.

Despite the many cons, I would stay here again. The Wilderness Resort still costs far less than its main competitors, and the water parks are fantastic. Is it crazy busy? Yes! But the kids absolutely love it, so I grin and bear it.

Room Tip: ALWAYS try to stay on the top floor of a Wilderness property to minimize the sounds from kids runnin...

I have many reasons to give this an excellent review. We stayed in a two bedroom deluxe with a three boys (2, 4, 13) and a nine year old girl. I have all boys so bringing the little girl next door to help offset the testosterone is a must for me! The room is a little more pricey then other rooms, but you can afford this if you eat in. There is a full kitchen with everything you need. We brought all the drinks, crockpot meals, and lunches. Crockpot meals are a must because no one wants to cook on vacation, but anyone with small children knows what a horrific experience trying to eat in a resturant can be!!!! Ok, so enough my family and how we budget. Here is why I gave this an excellent rating;
Lots of waterparks with easy access. Its free to hop around to different areas of this resort and schedules are posted every where in the hotel. If its too hot or cold you can pick an indoor play area.
Parking is always available
The staff goes above and beyond- like when I accidentally put my son's FAVORITE blankie in with the towels. I called the front desk and they sent an army down to search through all the towels to find the blankie and returned it before a bedtime meltdown!
The room was spotless clean when we arrived.
Maintenance is available at all times- when you think your fridge is leaking, but its really one of your frozen crock pot meals..it happens
There is a shop if you need any emergency items. For example waterproof sunscreen for babies seems safe till my accident prone 2 year old got it in his eyes and his eyes swelled shut.
We also loved Glacier Canyon because its close to many attractions!
The kids loved the knucklehead indoor amusement park, Riverside and Great Northern Railway, and the legendary deer park.

Room Tip: If you get a standard room, I would caution you not to get one in a walkway. Some of the waterparks...
