If you are looking at any reviews from 2+ years ago, disregard them completely...this Ranch is under new management and "service is number 1".
As an active family, we decided to try to take on a dude ranch, and we had no idea what an incredible experience that we would have. Not only was the new management (Kenny and Laura Long) welcoming and friendly, but they made sure that no need was left unattended. There were so many things to do on the ranch and the itinerary was exactly what WE wanted to do when WE wanted to do it. Our family could not wait to go horseback riding. You are assigned a horse for the week, which was well-mannered, and if you had any issue with yours (we did not) they were willing to give you a new horse! We did several rides including an all day ride to an amazing spot called Paradise Valley (the views alone lived up to the name) and we enjoyed a packed lunch with quick hikes to higher spots on the valley for pictures. One day mid week (when we city slickers were too sore to ride) we took a personalized day long tour to Yellowstone...amazing. In one day I felt like we saw the best the park had to offer: geysers, buffalos walking down the road, mud pots, and views that took your breath away.
One of the unexpected highlights of the trip for us was the Cody Rodeo and having the experience of the Crossed Sabres team at our side we did not miss a single trick. It did not look that hard until we had our hand at the mechanical bull...bottom line, those guys are good!
Food: Off the charts. Plan on gaining weight, end of discussion. Mary ran the kitchen while we were there and not only was the food incredible, my husband is lactose intolerant and Mary fixed him a "special" plate when dairy was included in the meal. There is also the most delicious cookies available at all times!
Accommodations: Perfect. Rustic cabins, some as old as 100 years old, were clean and comfortable. Our cabin had a porch over a babbling brook which was amazing and tranquil.
Getting to and from: The owner, Kenny, personally picked us up at the Cody Airport and took us back (at 6:30 am to catch a flight!).
Staff: The wranglers were college students with extensive riding experience with not only the horses but people too! Each night we would gather in the Saloon and play games with the staff including pool, foosball, card games, etc. and they were always willing to strike up conversation. They were so fun to be around it made the trip feel as if we went with close friends.
Bottom line is that this is be best vacation our family has every taken and we will definitely be back.
