My partner and I were utterly delighted and totally surprised to happen upon this spot. Don't be put off by the words "motel" or "cabin", even if you have plenty of money to spend. It is more like a boutique hotel or b&b with a cabin format. Our cabin for two people was as spotless as a room in a 5 star hotel, decorated uniquely and with local character, totally clean and new bathroom, fabulous staff, and an superb view and environment. It would be crazy to stay inside of the town of Cody when you could wake up here and enjoy the mountains. Top value experience I have ever seen, and a terrific way to start or end a trip to yellowstone.

This is our third stay at the Red Pole Ranch. My wife and I come here to enjoy the community of wonderfully friendly, salt of the earth people; the abundance of God's creation and the mysteries of Yellowstone and surrounding mountains. Mind you, we live on a ranch in Texas and have a ranch in Colorado and still find this place special. We have traveled the world and stayed in many 5 star hotels. None beat the service, attentiveness or comfort provided by the Schmalz's. If you have a few hours, but you'd need weeks, ask Don (the proprietor PattyJo's husband) to tell you some history of Cody and surrounds. He has seen and done it all, from guiding celebrities on horseback to building fence for near half a century. This is a trip for families, groups of friends or like us - couples who want some time to recharge, let loose, have fun, Praise God and appreciate the wonders of Wyoming and the gift of each other.

Room Tip: They are all good. Furtherest from the office give you the best views

The ranch is next to Buffalo Bill State Park, a quite place and the view is beautiful. We booked two rooms under one cabin. Room is OK, but bed is not confortable. Bathroom is small, but clean. Just like any average motel room, not fancy. No wi-fi in the room.
The ranch itself is not so good setting.

Stayed two nights and can't say enough about the excellence in care we received. Great bungalow with fluffy towels, hot water and clean clean living conditions. Had the two best nights sleep in a week on the most comfortable mattresses I' be ever experienced In a motel or hotel. We'd left our room pretty messy our first day and came back to find our room immaculate---- amazing. Great place, worth the price and then some.

We found this property via Trip Advisor, and decided to shy away from the chain places. Good decision. We really enjoyed our brief stay here on our big drive across the West. What this property offers is peace & quiet, a pretty setting, a reasonable price, and the location was ideal for us. We were heading west into Yellowstone Park, so being 12 miles west of Cody was handy. It's in a beautiful setting. If you have some free time you'll enjoy being adjacent to Buffalo Bill State Park. Look that up on the web to see photos...the property is on the west end of the lake, across the creek from the playground/picnic area. There is a walking trail right there that goes around much of the lake. It's a nice bonus to have all this right there.

The photos and descriptions on their website are accurate. The cabin we stayed in was very comfortable and homey, with two beds (queen & double, i think), and a window A/C that worked very well. The room was a good size with a vaulted ceiling, desk, comfy chair, mini-fridge, TV (roughly 27" older glass type) etc. The room key comes attached to a cow tag, which made me smile. The bathroom and linens were clean and fresh; good soaps too. Each cabin appears to have two rooms, and are intelligently designed with the bathrooms sharing the common wall so you won't hear your neighbors and have more quiet and privacy than you'd usually have in a chain hotel. We slept great here, better in fact than in most places. The property is not on the main road, which helps in my opinion. At night it is fantastic: there are no city lights so you really can see the night sky (and the owners were nice enough to put red lights on the cabins so they don't spoil the viewing). We had no problem using our own Verizon aircard for internet access, so didn't try to see if there was wifi.

There are no facilities like a fitness center or pool, or even a lobby. In a setting like this, you don't need that stuff, and Yellowstone NP is one of the best fitness centers anybody could ask for.

Thank you folks-for the wonderful review you posted about our place (I'm just the husband around here, so don't really get involved except to move the lawn sprinklers, give directions, and suggest various places guests might want to go to "get more out of their vacation"!) I would like to add that Patty Jo has just added HIGH SPEED, IN-ROOM internet service!! We now have a user name and password posted in each room, and all the best stuff the BIG places in the BIG cities do, EXCEPT there ain't no Big Cities around! That's the BEST part-just mountains, streams, grass, trees, horses, wild critters, Clean Air, Sattelite TV, INTERNET, and good folks!

We stayed 2 nights in these cabins. 4 adults in the bigger cabin, wonderful view, and 3 teens in a smaller cabin.
15mn from Cody, very quiet, peaceful. Cabin are well organized, very clean.
The view is unique with deers coming close to the lodges.
The outside deck is a great idea to drink a beer during sunset.
I wold recommend this place without any hesitation.

We arived late and Patty Jo was waiting on us. The cabins were neat, clean and kept that way each day. We traveled with our daughter, son-in-law and their two boys age 2 and 6, so the play ground was a great addition put to good use. We had two cabins, one had a kitchenette which was stocked and ready to use. Both cabins were well furnished down to current books if you wanted to lean back with a good book and relax.
We were close to Yellowstone and not far from town. All in all I would say we had a great time. Smores round the camp fire on our last night was a great touch. Thanks to Don and Patty Jo for a wonderful place to stay and for making us welcome.

Room Tip: Both rooms we had were very nice. When the sun goes down it is dark and quite
