The scenery and location to Yellowstone is awesome! Patti Jo treated me like family. I had wrecked my bike and called the ranch and left a message that I was planning to stay there, but would be late. Patti Jo came out and greeted me and noticed that I had one hell of a day, not to mention I was covered head to toe with dirt as was the bike. She told me, "I was home" and not to worry about anything and treated me to some adult beverages. I didn't even have to pay until the next day to ease my anxiety. She even did my laundry from my wreck and had it all ready the next day, all free of charge. I can't say enough about the hospitality I received. The room was very cozy w/ fridge and dish TV. The bathroom was very clean and very spacious shower. The ranch is next to the reservoir and in between the mountains, you can't ask for more than that. It's about 12 miles to Cody.

We were staying in Yellowstone National Park but we decided to check out of the park one day early and stay in Cody, about 80 miles outside the park. While calling all the local hotels/motels provided by the lodging staff at Yellowstone, we were told by one hotel they were full and they referred us to the Red Pole Ranch and Motel.
The ranch and motel is an owner run facility with just a few cabins to stay in located ten minutes west of downtown Cody and about forty minutes from the east entrance of Yellowstone just one mile off the highway (look for their sign). After explaining our intentions of leaving early and staying in Cody, we inquired about rates and availability. They offer an unbelievable discount rate for military personnel, both active duty and retired which all service personnel should take an advantage of if possible!
After checking in, the owner walked us to our cabin to confirm everything was in order and ready for us. She had the TV on the Weather channel; confirmed towels were ready and even suggested a place to eat (Yellowstone Valley Inn) in the area. The room was clean, well maintained and most importantly, had the appearance of a place one would use again and again. I would describe the Red Pole Ranch as a hidden gem one would not know of unless they knew about it.
The rooms have a log cabin look on the outside and all the amenities one needs inside. The room itself had two beds, satellite TV, all the necessities as well as a separate bathroom. The bathroom was not your typical hotel bathroom but had all the look and feel of a bathroom in your house. It made you feel like you were at home. They do not provide your standard hotel bed and bath linens. The towels, bedspreads, sheets, etc. were all something you would use in your own home. Most importantly, you are off the main road and you cannot hear traffic and other standard hotel noises.
If you want to visit Cody on your way in/out of Yellowstone, this is the place to go.

My family and i have been vacationing in the wapiti valley for the past 19 years in a row and we have always stayed at the same place until 2008 it was sold so we had to find another place to stay that was in our budget. we found the red pole ranch and stayed there last summer in june and Don and Patty joe the owners treated us like family. this place is very clean , beautiful surroundings and they did everything in the world they could to make us feel at home and got us everything we needed. i highly recommend their place to stay and its in the perfect location. they are locals and have top knowledge of the whole state and things to see and do in that area and elsehwere. we will be staying there from now on, and will be there again this june

Just west of cody, near Buffalo Bill resevior lies this peaceful and picturesque place to stay. We stayed there one saturday night and it couldn't have be more perfect. Seated near the river and up against a mountain, these dublex cabins have all you need. TV, fridge, shower, very homely feel after staying in yellowstone for a week. Its about 10 mins from cody and a few minutes away from the resevior dam. The cabins inside seemed new and however we could not find an iron but that was minor for us. Hope you give this place a chance like we did.
