“Pampered Tourists Need Not Apply”
Reviewed 22 August 2014

If you're part of a young and restless generation who can't live without a cell phone sticking out of your ear or fingers stuck to a keyboard, you shouldn't stay here....If you're part of pampered rich who like your room refrigerator stocked with $8 beers and teeny $14 bottles of wine, don't stay here, either.

If you like mountains, rushing rivers, moose, bear and big horn sheep, this might be your place. If you have fond memories of station wagon trips across the U.S.A. in your youth you might want to stay here too....And, if you're like us, you might want to stay ten days or two weeks at a time.

Teddy Roosevelt described the scenery between Cody and the East Entrance to Yellowstone Park as the most beautiful fifty miles in America. This may be the prettiest spot in that entire fifty miles. The view outside of the front window of the dining room is to kill for. If you use a vacation to run away from the "real world", this is your place. You need not worry about bothersome clients or patients or telemarketers...because your cell phone won't work here. Your Internet won't work either...unless you're staying in cabin 1 or, maybe, 3. You'll actually have to take an extra trip to the tavern or dining room to check your e-mail. In short, you'll be on that "real vacation" that you remembered as a child...when, people could get ahold of you in an emergency...but, it wasn't easy on them.

There's hiking nearby, too....Try Avalanche Peak...It might be the hardest climb you've ever taken...And the best reward you've ever had if you have what it takes to make it to the top...My wife said "yes" atop this same mountain...Then we celebrated our engagement...and honeymoon at Pahaska.

Is it rustic? Certainly....And, we hope it never changes.

Room Tip: Be a repeat guest and avoid "tourist season".

We expected rustic but for the amount of money, we did expect it to be clean. The bathroom floor had not been cleaned for a while and the space between the tub and sink was filthy. The toilet seat should have been replaced a long time ago, and the sink was so cruddy that I did not use it the next morning to wash up--just threw some water on my face and left. The variety of bugs we saw was something else. Only good things were the mattresses except that concern for bugs did not allow much sleep. We did check for bedbugs but didn't find any. Food at the lodge was over-priced. A cup and small bowl of chili was over ten dollars. Save your money and find a decent motel in Cody, WY.

the rooms were very small, bugs everywhere, rude manager, poor restarent staff and very expensive. Almost $200 for a small room, no AC, no TV , internet non existent even thought it says limited.the only goo thing was its location to the west gate of yellowstone National Park.

Room Tip: dont stay here!!! try another a little farther from entrance of Yellowstone.

After traveling from Arkansas by car we were so excited to be 4 miles from the entrance to Yellowstone Park. That may be the only true info on the web site from Pahaska Tepee Resort. Everything else must have been there since the days of Buffalo Bill Cody. When we opened the door to our Deluxe Cabin ( which was $200 /night) we were welcomed to dirt and gravel on the floors of the nasty carpet. There is NO Air, NO Ceiling Fans, and only the front window opens so no way to have wind moving in the rooms since the other windows appear to be nail closed. The lady that checked us in was of no help and could not have cared. The plumber ( who was called to our 2nd cabin next door did offer to go to his home and bring us a fan) after he worked on the toilet which would not flush and the shower which would not work. The young summer staff seemed to know little about what clean means. The couple that supposely own the property were no where to be found. Our room # 1 was on the highway next to a horseback riding area, and the store/cafe - need I say more. The best part of our stay was giving these people there room keys back and moving on. Yellowstone is a beautiful place to visit. Just make your hotel reservations early, stay in the park or on the North side or West side of the park. We moved on to Jackson for 3 nights.

Room Tip: We stayed in # 1 & # 2 which are on the highway next to the store/resturant. Both men in our pa...

My family and I decided to take a road trip to Yellowstone and we went through a travel agent at Yellowstone to book the Pahaska Tepee Resort. We informed the travel agent that we would have a pet and they informed us that would not be problem. After a long trip we checked into the hotel and put our stuff away. Another guest seen us with the dog later that evening and called management. The manager then proceeded to be extremely rude to my family and raised her voice at us telling us that there were no pets allowed. We explained to her that the travel agent insured us that they were pet friendly, she then went on to tell us that they charge a $10/day fee for pets (if the hotel isn't pet friendly why have a pet fee?) Also, we seen 3 other guest with dogs walking around. She informed us that she would let us stay but after that encounter my family decided to find another hotel the next morning.

Also, the room was very small and hot! They say you don't need air conditioning, but it sure felt like we did. They have no TV and VERY limited Internet (50% of the time it didn't work). The staff had left boards (2×4) in our bedroom and tried to hide them on the side of the bed. You could also here every word your neighbor was saying. For the price we were expecting much better.

The only positives were its location, the scenery, and the restaurant (although a little pricey).

This place was built by Buffalo Bill Cody as a hunting lodge just outside of Yellowstone National Park. We stayed in the queen suite cabin #1 and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves with privacy and quiet. No, there is no TV, no wifi, and no cell service. It is very remote and amenties are harder and more expensive for them to provide. So my wife and I hiked down to the North Fork of the Shoshone for some fly fishing, sat on the porch and drank wine, took a nap, and talked. We did have coffee in the room, the room, sheets, and towels were clean and our energy levels were turned way down. We ate well at the restaurant and got good service. In short, it was what we expected and more. We did have to drive into Wapiti to get fishing licenses so get those before you go, but there was a great breakfast place down there and it was a pleasant and beautiful 20 minute drive. Ice is free to guests at the small store and the staff got us some from the kitchen our first night when we arrived after the store was closed. If you have the right expectations going in you will have a great and relaxing time. We are already planning our next trip!

Room Tip: Spring for a private cabin and you will have a great experience.

The breakfast (not included in room rate) was wonderful although the coffee was average and I was never offered a refill. We arrived there at 10 pm. It was dark at our cottage and the lightbulb to the steps was burned out so we had to make our way up the stairs in the dark. The 3 bedroom room (5 of us) was horrible. The deadbolt on the door was hollow - they had taken out the bolt. All there was for security was a flimsy chain and a pop-out button lock. The rooms were filthy. Ripped carpet. Kind of creepy for 2 women and 3 kids. We pulled mattresses into the largest bedroom and slept together. This would be okay for a group of hunters who only want the convenient location and a good breakfast. Otherwise, I would advise Do Not Stay There! Historic though. And beautiful location. And convenient location.
