We stayed here for 4 nights in August, 2 kids, 6 and 8 and two adults. I would definitely stay here again
We stayed in 13 Conestoga. The kids used the loft as a play area which they loved. The queen bed was just below. We didn't let them sleep up there. There was a pull out sofa bed where the kids slept. As with all pull outs, wouldn't recommend adults on it due to the bar that is always across a pull out, maybe a small adult. There was a cute full kitchen, stove, fridge, microwave with a good size dining table, plates, pans, utensils. The storage for clothes was kind of small so we left our clothes in the luggage. I read one or two reviews before I booked here about really sad looking rooms, but they were not that at all. They must have remodeled since those reviews. Everything was very clean and nice. It was warm in the day, but we weren't really in the cabin in the daytime too much and at night, it cooled down nicely.
Had a really great petite filet and was amazed at how juicy and tender and delicious it was. I would definitely stop there again just to eat. All the vegetables were really fresh and good. You could buy a sack lunch to take into the park with you, which is a really good idea, because sometimes the lines in the park were awful. The breakfasts were large generous portions. The baked goods are sooo good and from scratch. Everything to eat was always good, never had one bad thing. The staff really takes pride in their food.
In Cody, Bubbas was a good place for BBQ.
We took a one hour river trail ride which was perfect for the kids. They had helmets for the kids and led the two kids, just in case. They really know their horses and safety was first and foremost in their minds. I really appreciated this.
About 10-12 miles from the east entrance of Yellowstone. About 30 miles from Cody which is good for going to the night rodeo in the summer and to the Cody Wyoming Trout Ranch (small stocked pond for kids to fish). Also went into Cody for Wyoming River Trips rafting. We picked a safe trip in August with a little bit of rapids. On the day we checked out, we drove through the top loop of the park and into West Yellowstone for an overnight and then on to the Tetons and then Salt Lake.
There is no WiFi or cell service at this place, which was fine with us. We actually didn't really get cell service in most of Yellowstone. There is a PC in the lobby that you can use and a dial telephone you can use for free for US calls. There are board games and a cute living area with fireplace and a bar in the lobby. There is an ice machine you can use for free as well. There is some lovely artwork in the restaurant for sale. You can get to the Shoshone River by walking under the highway, it's very cold water even in August. Small swing set for kids.
The staff was really nice and helpful and relaxed. We would definitely stay here again.
- Official Description (provided by the hotel):
- Elephant Head Lodge is a small AAA log-cabin mountain resort located just 11.7 miles East of Yellowstone National Park and 40 miles west of Cody, WY. The lodge and most of our cabins are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It gets its name from a rock formation overlooking it. The Lodge, Restaurant, and the "Trapper" cabin were built in 1910 by Buffalo Bill Cody's niece, Josephine Thurston, and her husband Harry W. Thurston.
