“Wild and desolate lake, only 6 miles from Cody”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 June 2014

This lake is formed by a dramatic, narrow dam in a steep canyon of the Shoshone river. The lake itself is a bit windy and barren, but the dam is a must see, and the drive is amazing. Once you reach the end of the lake each direction you look is a completely different landscape: badlands, grass hills and rimrocks, basalt mountains and cliffs, and toward Yellowstone park, your classic mountain views.

“Amazing Technological Feat”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 June 2014

Drilling began in 1904 in the construction of the dam. Amazingly no steel was utilized within the construction. The cost of the dam, just under $930,000.00 and the lives of 7 men.

Still utilized today to irrigate 93,000 acres. Standing at the top of the dam, one can hear the thunder of water gushing through into the reservoir below. A true example of man harnessing nature!

“Very interesting”

This is a very interesting and scenic stop on the way into Cody from the west. Fascinating when you consider how long ago it was built and just another feather in the cap of Bill Cody. What a visionary!

“Stop, take a deep breath and enjoy!!!”

The reservoir is large and beautiful. I love to stop here on my way up the Wapiti Valley. Great place to take out the chairs, eat a sandwich and drink in the Wyoming landscape.
