Triangle C Ranch
Reviewed 8 July 2009

Triangle C was what we expected and a lot more... my wife and our two kids ( 12 and 6 years old) and I went on this vacation. I need to say that my wife and I were a little worried at first about our 6 year old riding on his own until we saw how well the horses are matched to the riders. The activities provided for the kids are exceptional. (Triangle C is very kid friendly) These are not your typical rental horses that follow each other head to tail, you are actually able to take your horse and ride as hard or as easy as you want. I have some riding experience so I asked for an intermediate horse and that's exactly what I got, it was awesome... The wranglers are very experienced and eager to help, especially with the kids. What we liked the best is that the kids can go out riding with the wranglers or you all can go out and ride as a family, it's completely up to you. The rides are tailored to meet every individuals needs, the head wrangler will set up what ever type of ride you want to go on. I was actually assigned a wrangler to go on an advanced ride, (if you have riding experience I highly recommend you go on an advanced ride, you will be amazed with the horses abilities)

If you are looking for a Dude Ranch experience, this is it... I don't want to repeat what the other reviews say but everything good you read about the ranch is true. You wont be disappointed...

We had a wonderful time and would highly recommend it to our friends and family. This was a vacation we will always remember.

Yes, the weather was a bit cold, but we are not talking about the weather when we say not as warm as we expected. When we arrived at the ranch we were welcomed by all, but the welcome seemed more like a hotel welcome rather than a family welcome as advertised by the Triangle C Family. Welcome in a business sense! We expected a more genuine welcome.
The ranch had good food. Meals are served in a restaurant style - you sit down and the waitress and bartender ask you what you want. (Formal). The rooms are really nice (cabins with Queen Beds) and the wranglers/employees were nice. The office staff and operators were a bit cold - wranglers were true and nice. There was a clear division between Owners and Wranglers. On a few occasions at dinner, the wranglers were clearly told with the snap of a finger to get to the back of the line behind guests,.which I thought was a bit much. It showed how the owners truly operate the ranch - its a business. Other ranches we have stayed at have a warmer / family feel.
The business feel carried through the week - which was a bit sad. On the last night the bills where place don each persons dinner table - written on it the suggested TIP amount. Again - business feel. It did not however include the bar tab,..which you only got on checkout.
The program/schedule was broad. They offered many activities. If you get bored - its your own fault. Plenty to do! Free laundry facility on site.

The Triangle "C" is an excellent Dude Ranch and vacation experience located in an easy to reach yet stunningly beautiful part of Wyoming along the Wind River centered between Yellowstone and Jackson Hole. The ranch is owned and operated by the Garnick Family. Although the facilities are well staffed with many intelligent, friendly, and helpful wranglers and working friends... The tone for your stay is definitely set by the Garnick family members (as many as 4 - 10 on site at any one time). The Garnicks are VERY hospitable and each one is eager to help make your stay as comfortable and as enjoyable as possible. The "C" in the ranch name now stands in memory of Cameron Garnick the recently deceased ranch founder, father and obviously impressive role model for the Garnick Family. I note him as an impressive role model because his wife and children carry his memory in their ongoing efforts, work ethic, and in the genuine desire that each Garnick family member demonstrates ( even the younger Garnicks) in wanting you to feel welcome , satisfied and happy while you are staying at the Triangle "C," and They DO succeed. Honestly, by the end of the week they converted even the most jaded hi stress city dweller into a Triangle "C" family ranch-hand.
I think it is important to understand that this is a DUDE RANCH experience, and not a "Hoity-toity" high end luxury resort ( which I have been known to enjoy from time to time as well) That being said, The ranch provides many wonderful facilities including excellent massage services, a small swim pool/spa , a hot tub in the cabin area a pool table, a full stocked Bar etc...as well as the already noted genuine desire to assist and accommodate which is always present...yet one must keep in mind that these amenities are provided within the rustic Ranch setting and this is not a Four Seasons hotel. In my families case the Triangle "C" was recommended to us by the concierge at the Four Seasons Hotel in Jackson Hole....as an excellent choice for a Dude Ranch. The recommendation we received was based on the value and quality of the of the overall experience of what a Dude Ranch is "meant to provide". The Triangle "C" definitely lived up to , and exceeded the expectation of the recommendation. It is an outstanding experience presented with concern for comfort , entertainment, and hospitality.

In terms of the rest of the ranch experience.... ( I am a slightly more experienced rider ...…)
I thought The Horses were amazing, well matched to their riders , and all in excellent condition , ...(not like typical rental horses)...In large part the credit goes to the Head Wrangler who not only is married to one of the Garnick Girls, but also manages the extremely friendly and helpful wrangler staff as well. The other activities are also plentiful, there is always something fun to do, but no pressure to do it... But you'll find yourself wanting to do everything anyway! ( breakfast cookouts, evening BBQ's, fishing trips, Archery, Hatchet Throwing, Teen Overnights, Mountain biking, A Tee Pee Sleep over for younger kids, Adults night, Square Dancing, Rodeo's, Yellowstone tours......night rides, Etc) it is all very fun and very inclusive.
The accommodations also were great. The newly remodeled cabins are "very, very" comfortable and stylish. There is laundry facilities on site , so those dusty jeans can be used a few times...…The dining room and kitchen provided solid "ranch style" fair with a few attempts at finer dining cuisine... overall everything was tasty and filling, but the kitchen might benefit from the touch of a new chef in 2009 if the current chef does not return next season.
Ultimately The Garnicks are involved in every aspect of the operation and their attention to your enjoyment and experience is obvious. Our Family ( Myself, my wife and 2 sons, my brother , his wife & Daughter and my 83 yr. old father and 80 yr. old Step mother all went riding and did everything else mentioned above...) without hesitation would all HIGHLY RECOMMEND this wonderful ranch for your vacation experience.

We just returned from a family trip with a party of 13. Kids ranging in age from 8 to 19 and 5 adults. We agreed that it was the best vacation ever.

The hospitality on the ranch is top notch. The setting in the Wind River Range is hard to beat if you are wanting to get away. Our cabins and beds were clean and comfortable. The meals were superb.

As far as the daily activities, we were not disappointed. Although non of us had any real riding experience, by the end of the week, the kids were all riding with confidence. Other activities included fishing one afternoon at Brooks Lake, an overnight hike and camp out for the teenagers, a square dance in Dubois and a Rodeo.

On the last day, No one wanted to leave.

We are already considering when to go back.

The Triangle C ranch in the Dubois, Wyoming area was a great time. The ranch is really easy to get to from the Jackson airport, as it's all highway driving on route 26 until you come up to the ranch entrance. I went with my wife and our three kids, ages 13, 10 and 5. We spent six days at the ranch in early July 2008.

The rustic style facilities are very well kept, in a beautiful valley next to a river, surrounded by snow-capped mountains. Weather was sunny during the day with highs in the 80s, and the nights were cool, dipping into the 40s. Our two-room cabin was clean, cozy and comfortable. The ranch has a small heated pool and a hot tub. They have easy to use, self-serve laundry facilities at the ranch, so travel light, leave the six extra pairs of designer jeans at home, and don't overpack like we did.

The atmosphere was very kid-friendly. Our primary activity was riding the horses. They have trails suitable for kids and adults can choose more challenging rides. We also participated in a trip to Yellowstone, a hiking trip, fishing and a trip to the local rodeo in Dubois. Our 13-year-old had lots of fun camping out overnight offsite with ranch personnel and other teenaged guests, and our 10-year-old also had a fun time spending a night with other kids in a teepee on the ranch premises. We saw elk, moose and bison during the trip. The food was good, with breakfast, lunch and dinner included. Dinner and breakfast rides were lots of fun, as was the dinner sing-along later in the week. At the end of the week, the ranch offered dinner and theatre in Jackson, and this was a worthwhile and upbeat end to our vacation.

The ranch is operated by the conscientious, multi-talented, singing cowboy Garnick family, and they were active in ranch events throughout the week. We were also favorably impressed with the friendly support staff, which did a fine job in various activities for both the parents and the kids.

Overall, the experience felt authentically western and cowboy-ish, and the warm family atmosphere added to the experience, providing lots of opportunities for bonding among parents and kids. If you're coming from a big city, remember that this is a dude ranch, and the experience is focused on nature. It is rustic, rugged and remote by big city standards, so set your expectations accordingly. For a city person like me, the activities were tiring and left me sore, but I can't wait to go back.

The ranch program starts on a Monday and runs until Saturday. I recommend flying in on Sunday to get an early start on Monday morning. If you get in early enough on Sunday, stay at a hotel in the Teton National Park for the night; it's on the way to the ranch and is a beautiful way to start the trip. You should check out the ranch's website, just type the ranch name into a search engine.

The location of the dude ranch on the wind river, surrounded by mountains, the smell of sage as you ride cannot be beat. All your senses are engaged and beauty surrounds you at the ranch. The ranch is owned by the Garnick family and by the end of your stay you want to be adopted by them. It is a genuine, friendly, helpful, and cheerful atmosphere. The children's program was great. Your kids are having fun, are safe and learning. The kids do as much as they like with you so it is not like you are on separate vacations. The staff is very accomodating as to your wishes and that of the children. The food is fresh, healthy and delicious. The rooms are clean, well decorated, and have comfortable beds. Before going we found the vacation pricey, afterwards we felt like we received much more than expected for our money. I highly recommend the ranch, and will do again , in fact just came back two weeks ago and ready to go again. (The children feel the same way). If you like riding, clean air , friendly people, go saddle up , refresh your soul and outlook on life. This vacation definitely has improved our family life.

We went to the Triangle C during June '07 and had an amazing time. We went with children from ages 8-14, having no riding experience, and definitely plan to return. I'd break down our visit into four categories: staff, food, accomodations & activities.

First, the staff was uniformly excellent. The Garnick family was wonderful to be around and have hired great people to work at their ranch. The wranglers were all personable and knowledgable and were able to make children who had never been on a horse before comfortable in the saddle. By the end of the week my kids were happily thinking that they were true wranglers and doing things on horses that I hadn't imagined possible before we arrived. Casey and the other non-wrangler ranch staff were also great.

The food was amazing; Sally the chef takes care of business on the culinary side. If you were going to quibble you might say that the food wasn't overly exotic or adventuresome but it was great eating. You won't go hungry at the ranch.

The accomodations were very nice if a bit spartan. if your idea of a vacation is relaxing in your room this isn't the vacation for you but if you're going for a ranch/riding experience it's not a problem. There's not a pool but if you're brave enough you can swim in the river, which is mighty cool from the snowmelt.

In terms of activities it's easiest to say that there is always something going on. Between daytime rides, adult-only evening rides, trips to Yellowstone or full day rides, or the night trip to Dubois for the squaredance there were always activities. I guarantee that you won't be bored. Wait until you try to throw a tomahawk!

We'll definitely go back and can't wait to see the Triangle C again.
