Population 190...not secluded, but tucked away privately...with green green foresty surrounding the elegant hotel. Rooms decorated with decadent nudes of women from times yon, hallways are decorated with tasteful pictures of stars the likes of Louie Armstrong who entertained on an outdoor spring-stage where people came from miles around to listen and dance for hours...days on end....via the Overland Trail since the 1860's. You feel the presence and sense of being there during the days of yore. It is the current owners who greet their guests and delight them with gourmet cooking and intimate care during their stay that makes the stay airy and refreshing and you cannot resist making the trip again....and again...we are already planning our 3rd visit....beautiful drive with wildlife sightings galore.

Room Tip: Each room has a placard on the door bearing the name of a star who performed during the early days.

Most of the rooms in Rawlins were booked...thank goodness. This is a lovely place to stay. Quaint, quiet, very well maintained. Excellent food and a real continental breakfast of homemade breads and pastries.

Had an absolutely lovely dinner here to celebrate our 25th Wedding Anniversary. We were staying near by at the Elk Mountain Cabins, and wanted to go some place special for dinner. This was perfect. The ambience of the dining room was elegant, the server charming. Our meal was wonderful. We would definitely go back again.

This quaint hotel is nestled in the sleepy village of Elk Mountain, Wyoming on the Medicine Bow River surrounded by trees, birds, and silence. My mother was born and raised in Elk Mountain and had told me many stories about the hotel and I once danced in the Pavilion. The hotel has been restored to it's original beauty but has been modernized with modern plumbing. The decor is lovely, the atmosphere serene, owners Susan and Arthur are gracious and welcoming. The food in the dining room is absolutely mouth watering; Susan is indeed an accomplished chef. The scones will melt in your mouth. Make this your destination when you are in southeastern Wyoming. Camilla, Whitehall, MT

Room Tip: The rooms are themed however all but one is upstairs so keep that in mind.

We stayed in the Evans suite and loved it. The jacuzzi tub is plenty big for two. The area was beautiful and secluded. Arthur and Susan were excellent hosts, and the food was delicious. Excellent remote getaway!

This is the place to go to get away from it all.Incredible food and the accommodations are superb, Arthur is the best innkeeper, wonderful sense of humor and so accommodating. Susan, great food and service. You wouldn't expect this kind of service in the middle of nowhere, nor the yummy desserts. Come here for the ambiance and great food and service. DO NOT come here if you expect a 5 star hotel,no TV in rooms(which is wonderful). This is a million star hotel, the history, food, and night skies make it such.

Room Tip: All are wonderful

My wife and I stayed on the last day of our recent USA holiday before driving back to Denver. This is a really nice small and very personal place to stay with great hosts, very good food and a real feeling that you are a welcomed guest. We had the separate room outside the main building and we both had the best night's sleep imaginable, despite being warned about a mountain lion in the vicinity and we later also found that a bear was in the neighbourhood too! But for me if you stay in the countryside this is something you have to accept and it all added to the experience. This Is well worth a visit if you want to avoid the anonymous hotel/motels that are the alternative.
