The Historic Elk Mountain Hotel
Ranked #1 of 1 Hotels in Elk Mountain

Reviewed 19 June 2014

Step into Elk Mountain Hotel and you step back in time, in high style. This small, personable, boutique hotel is an undiscovered gem; and it is the closest thing to a ‘Five Star’ experience that you’ll ever find in Wyoming. Built in 1905, extensive renovations have fully restored its original ‘Wild West’ opulence to the Elk Mountain Hotel. Being there, you expect to see the likes of Wild Bill Cody or Jesse James sitting at a nearby table. Each of the 12 bedrooms is individually decorated with opulent art, furnishings and appointments. The dining room serves ‘Cordon Bleu’ meals prepared in a well-equipped kitchen and served with European attention to details. The proprietors of Elk Mountain Hotel, Susan and Arthur Havers, emigrated from Europe and spent most of the last decade putting together this first class hotel. Well off the beaten track, Elk Mountain Hotel is located at the foot of the Snowy Mountains, mid-way between Denver and Yellowstone. Elk Mountain Hotel is one of Wyoming’s best kept secrets; but it is not for everyone… the only TV is in the hotel lounge, and no pets, children, RV’s or smoking are allowed.

Peaceful and relaxing. Fantastic restaurant. If you are traveling through Wyoming on I-80, you must stop and stay. The hosts make you feel like you are part of the Elk Mountain Hotel family. Greeted by a friendly cat whe we arrived. Cute dog said goodby when we left.

The Elk mountain hotel is a beautifully maintained historic hotel the very secluded little town of Elk Mountain. The food is very good at dinner, but breakfast buffet is sparse for the price. Enjoy the quiet, but don't bring the kids as management is not fond if them.

Our stay at the Elk Mountain Hotel was everything we hoped it would be. Comfortable accommodations, excellent food and a relaxing environment. The hosts (owners) strived to meet our every need. The renovations to the old hotel were as reasonably close to "period correct" as could be expected. Take a minute to sit on the upper porch with a book and listen to the river, you will have no choice but to relax.

Our group held a 2 day retreat in the hotel and we couldn't have asked for a better atmosphere. The rooms were clean and charming, the food was delicious (wow!), and the meeting room was always stocked with cookies or other goodies. One would never guess that this wonderful oasis was just a couple of miles off of Interstate 80. The hosts were delightful and accommodating, Don't expect to watch TV, there aren't any in the rooms...But the views and atmosphere more than make up for it. The young moose in the front yard made our morning!

We came for a graduation party to meet relatives and have a dinner and evening together. We got snowed in for an extra day and Susan was amazing. She made the guests feel like royalty with wonderful food and hospitality. Absolutely wonderful accommodations and very historic. A must stay!
