Description: The hotel was established in 1905 and is known as 'Wyoming's hidden gem' despite being located just 3 miles off Interstate 80 between Rawlins and Laramie. The Victorian era hotel has 12 beautifully decorated en-suite rooms and a full service fine dining restaurant serving dinner prepared by our Cordon Bleu de Paris trained chef (and owner). The hotel is situated in 10 acres of meadow and woodland alongside the Medicine Bow River. Open year round, subject to the vagaries of the famous Wyoming weather!

When we were caught in a wind storm in Elk Mountain last week we heard from another seeking refuge in the gas station that there was a hotel 3 miles ahead. When it cleared enough to travel more we found this lovely "Inn"/hotel and a very hospitable host Susan who is also a fabulous cook. She made us hot tea and we had a wonderful dinner in her restaurant attached to the hotel. The fire place was warm and welcoming and the king size bed very comfortable! Breakfast (included) gave us plenty of great coffee and delicious delicate pasteries and more!

Another highest rating for the Elk Mountain Historic Hotel and Restaurant as we again ventured from Sun Valley to Elk Mountain Historic Hotel for the 2013 Thanksgiving Feast (Luncheon and Snack). Again this year there was a choice but with a twist...Pork Tenderloin WELLINGTON and Turkey Roast...or BOTH!!!!!

Wonderful food again (as always) with great stuffing, vegetables, and even desserts!

The weather cooperated for the 1200 mile round trip drive and the food and hospitality were again OUTSTANDING! We can't wait to return!

Stayed overnight at the Hotel and had dinner and breakfast in the restaurant. Accommodations were very cozy and colorful. The hotel is located very near a number of outdoor sites well suited for hiking, picnicking, photography, fishing and hunting (in the proper season) as well as other local historic sites and small town museums all within a short drive of the hotel. An excellent site to base your day-trips from if you're a western history enthusiast or outdoor explorer.

The food had very flavorful sauces, good wines and deserts and an interesting menu. However, delivery on the basics of the entrees was less than expected given the credentials. Two orders of meat--one lamb, one venison--at medium and medium rare both came out grey, dry and very well done in the center. Next morning an eggs Benedict with delightful sauce and finishes had two very well done eggs--yolks dry and very well done. Hopefully this was just an off weekend (we all have them) for the chef as everything else was excellent and worth the price.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review on our little hotel and yes, I can only say I am sorry that your food was not to the level of your expectations. Generally we have a tendancy to undercook rather than overcook our meat, so I can assure you that the next time you come we will ensure that the meat is cooked to perfection. We hope that we will get the chance to prove that your assumption of 'a bad day at the office', was in fact the case. Thank you anyway for an honest appraisal, as that is the only way we can make sure we maintain the levels of service we build our reputaion upon.

Due to the Smoke and Fires around Hailey and Ketchum, ID we needed to leave! Since we had previous reservations for the Annual Wine Pairing Dinner hosted by Marc Mondavi (Charles Krug Family Wines), our destination was clear...clean air for Patty to TRAIN and great food and wine!

Last year, the Smoke drove us back Historic Elk Mountain Hotel and Restaurant for training before the 2012 National Championships in Bend, OR! Ditto this year, except the wine-pairing dinner was on the schedule! What a bonus!!!!!

So on to the sold-out Wine Pairing Dinner....Fabulous!
Stars of the show...food: "Pan Seared Scallop with Hackleback Caviar and Curry Veloute and the Wild Mushroom crusted Medallion of Venison...with the Pan Roasted Salmon with Grapes & Tarragon in a Reds Wine Reduction Sauce....was not far behind!

Wines: 2012 Sauvignon Blanc and the newly restyled 2011 Carneros Chardonnay. The 2010 Vintage Selection Cab was a mysterious, fruity, JAMMY, thick, young Cab....a joy to try at this early stage!!!!!!!

So again...worth the 600 mile drive and we will return SOON!!!!!
