We stopped overnight at the Skyline Campground. It was fine for an overnight stop, but most of the sites were on a hill with no good flat spot for a tent and there was no shade. If I was looking for more than a place to sleep for a night, I'd check the other campgrounds in the park. Sunset up on the hill was lovely.

Wow - had no idea Guernsey State Park was so beautiful. Lots of private camp sites. Loved the canyons and reservoir. Fun to see the small museum and what the Conservation Core built. Awesome views. Quiet. Very helpful and kind state park employees. Very well kept and clean park. Love it!

It was a very quiet week night. The campsite was great- fire ring, picnic table. Our only issue was you had to cross a two lane road to get to the restroom and we had to watch carefully as we have 5 kids and a pop-up without a restroom.

We had a family get together for 6 people in one yurt and had PLENTY of room. Beautiful views with spartan amenities. It was a perfect getaway. It was not much more than camping, but we all had mattresses to sleep on in an effectively "Super strong tent". Nice to not have to bring all the tent equipment. There are pit toilets, separate mens and womens, nearby that are shared by the 4 yurts. Each yurt has a nice deck with a picnic table and separate bench, a fire ring, and one of the nicest charcoal grills I've seen at a campground.

The yurts are close to the "castle" and "million dollar biffy" which are CCC (WPA) construction projects from the 30s. They don't build things like THAT anymore. We did a nice easy hike along the ridge that started at the castle.

Room tip: Yurt 4 has the best views, especially for sunset on the lake!

The park worked very well as a base for visiting Ft Laramie, Register Cliff, and the Guernsey Ruts. The Sandy Cove campground is on the other side of a ridge from the train, but the noise was inconsequential and we slept with the windows open. We were lucky to have the campground to ourselves in late September. Just be prepared for pit toilets. Look forward to coming here again.
