We booked this hotel months ago for a one-night stay, in between West Yellowstone & Twin Falls. Of course this was when the US shutdown resulted in the National Parks closing; our raison d'etre for being in Jackson with Yellowstone a stone's throws away.
We had left West Yellowstone the previous day, having been changing our holiday plans (read Best Western bookings) on a day-by-day basis in the hope that we would get inside some National Parks. The Wort was one that we simply couldn't change, without forfeiting the room cost for the night.
When we arrived we were so glad that change hadn't been an option for us. Immediately you walk into reception the ambience and decour sooth & welcome you, with the wide staircase in front of you and the open fire a little further on.
The reception staff were excellent and when it transpired that the original double room we had been booked into wasn't ready yet, we were offered a suite instead!
The suite was lovely with a huge, high double bed adorned with cushions and a large stuffed black bear. The in-room amenities were second-to-none, with a couch, comfortable chair, local magazines and a decent coffee machine. The free Wi-Fi was welcome and unexpected as some of the more 'upmarket' hotels tend to charge for this service.
The upshot being that we asked what the price would be to extend our stay in the suite for a night, and were told that we could have it for the same price as the double we had originally booked. So of course we were delighted to stay but helped, it has to be said, by Yellowstone opening the next day. That said, we probably would have stayed anyway!
We had stayed in Jackson before in 2010, in the old BW a couple of miles towards Teton Village but the Wort is slap bang in the centre of town; you couldn't ask for a better location in Jackson.
With the opening of Yellowstone (and other NPs we later visited) and the quality of the Wort, this turned from what could have been a disappointing stopover, into one of the highlights of our 3-week holiday and we will definitely be coming back to Jackson and the Wort in particular.
We can heartily recommend the Silver Dollar Bar on the premises with good value food and a great IPA!
The 12-hour drive to Lake Tahoe the next day, over an icy Teton Pass at 8am and -5C, was our penance for the additional night's stay but it was worth it.
