Having visited JH in the summer some years ago, whilst touring in an RV, we arrived between Christmas and the New Year for our first ever visit in the winter to enjoy skiing the Tetons.
We chose The Wort after reading TA reviews - we were not disappointed!
This is a truly excellent hotel for many reasons - it's great location (the Town Square is 30 seconds away), lovely food, magnificent Silver Dollar bar, superb staff and lots of "Cowboy" history thrown in too.
The location is great for Jackson, although not so if you want to be first on the slopes. The hotel provides a complimentary shuttle service to the Teton Village (30 mins), which is where we did all of our skiing, at 8.30am and returns at 4.30pm. The town also provides a half hourly service at a cost of $3 each - this takes a little longer due to stops, but run all day.
The hotel is full of memorabilia about it's rich history - we found this really interesting.
The standards throughout are quite frankly exceptional - we could not fault anything.
The Silver Dollar bar is a regular for the locals (always a good sign) and we loved it. You could get good food in here, as well as the restaurant. It is full of atmosphere and live music is played regularly. The bar itself is inlaid with "silver dollars" which dates back to proper western times.
WARNING! As a English family with two teenager, 19 & 17, we were caught-out by the under 21 law. This was a pain as it meant they were not allowed-in at all (even to eat) after 6pm - QUITE UNBELIEVABLE in this day and age. As this was where the action & music was we were unable to enjoy it as a family.
The rooms were full of character, very clean and the quality of housekeeping exceptional. We had upgraded, although the standard rooms were lovely too.
SOME OBSERVATIONS: Our room - 219 - backed onto the bars around the square. This meant there was a lot of noise and disturbances from deliveries etc, throughout the early ours - literally from 4am onwards. Our children were in 229 - whilst nice, it only had a tiny window for such a big room. Both rooms suffered from very poor lighting if you wanted to read - or indeed like brightness. Another annoying thing was the heating relies on blown air - this created a very dry atmosphere and kept us awake as it was very noisy too.
All in all very good and we would stay here if coming back to Jackson - although next time we may stay closer to the slopes at the Teton Village.
