Five women and one wonderful guide, Mike, had a fantastic day exploring Yellowstone. I don't often do guided tours but agreed to do this with my friends and was I ever glad I did. Mike picked us up at our home, showed us the best sights, drove over 250 miles, patiently took our photos with all 4 cameras..."Don't you guys know about emailing photos to each other?" he said good naturedly. Our picnic lunch was great - we stopped by the river and Mike put out the spread while we relaxed. He was a wealth of knowledge and keep us at a good pace. He knew the ins/outs of the park so that we got the most out of a one day visit. Can't wait to go back and explore more. Grant Tetons and Yellowstone are great places to visit...but having a guide at Yellowstone made the visit super!

Having been on many tours in many countries, this ranks as one of the best. The tour itself was fantastic and in one day we hit all of the major spots on the lower loop. We saw many - off the beated path sights and truly felt like we had covered the park. Our guide Jonathan was fantastic. He was super knowledgeable, accommodating, flexible, and always available and fun. The booking procedure was simple and the extra touches, such as the souvenir water bottles and gourmet served picnic lunch were delightful. The additional "green" and environmental focus added to our enjoyment.

As senior citizens we were able to enjoy all of the sights in a non-strenous way.

Thanks Jonathan and Jason too!

There are countless reasons Jackson Hole Wildlife Safaris made my experience in Wyoming a memorable one. I can't imagine having made this trip to Yellowstone from Jackson Hole on my own--I would've missed so much. There was no question about the area that Jason, my tour guide couldn't answer. He was not only so knowledgeable but he managed the time we had there really well so we would get to see all the best stops and not miss a thing. He also persevered in terms of trying to locate all the wildlife our group so desperately wanted to see. Jason also made sure we were super safe...he was not only a great driver but also gave us appropriate warnings about keeping a safe distance from animals and hot springs! An added bonus was the lovely lunch provided as part of the whole package. Jason provided us with a delicious (and fancy) eco-friendly picnic lunch at a beautiful and serene picnic spot. We also all got really cool water bottles to keep and snacks as needed. I would definitely recommend Jason and his crew for an unparalleled Safari experience...you won't be sorry!

We stayed in Teton Village for 3 nights in mid-May, right at the start of the season. Because our free time was so short, we decided to take a guided tour, rather than drive ourselves. I’m very glad we did! Our hotel suggested a different operator, but we chose to go with Jackson Hole Wildlife Safaris. I had found them by searching online and had been very favorably impressed by the company’s web site: the photographs (taken by the company’s owner, who also has a GREAT photo gallery) were gorgeous; moreover, I found the company’s environmental statement and overall philosophy very appealing. When I called to ask about tours, I spoke with the owner, Jason, who was very helpful in explaining what weather and wildlife conditions to expect on the date we could tour and also in selecting a tour that would give us the best chance of seeing wildlife. Moreover, his company would pick us up in Teton Village for no extra charge (the other operator had an extra charge, or we would have had to drive to Jackson at 5:30 am).

Our tour was on May 15th, right at the start of the season. Jason was our guide and both he and the tour were exceptional. We’d never been in that part of the country before and what we saw during out 12 hours far exceeded any expectations we’d had. We took the Yellowstone Safari, going north on Moose-Wilson Road into Grand Teton National Park and then north into Yellowstone to see the lower loop sites. [----]

I blush to admit I had not previously grasped the volcanic and tectonic nature of the area—it was just magnificent to see the Tetons thrust up so sharply and then see the thermal features up in Yellowstone. For me, one of the most magical things was walking with my husband on the boardwalk at the West Thumb Geyser Basin and seeing the hot pools in such vibrant colors against the snow; another was using Jason’s binoculars to watch a coyote frolicking in the snow and trying to dig for a rodent in Hayden Valley. My husband’s favorites included the mud volcano and the sweeping expanses of mountains and sky.

During the day, we saw plentiful wildlife. We saw numerous moose, elk, and bison; the coyote; numerous white pelicans and herons; a crane; mule deer; a nesting osprey (we watched it with Jason’s spotting scope at the canyon falls), many other birds (we are not birders), ground squirrels and other rodents (chipmunks?). Although we looked for otter and bear, we did not see them. (We did see a baby bear on Moose Wilson road on the way to the airport the next day.)

Jason picked us up in a very comfortable SUV; we were the only ones on that tour since it was so early in the season. I had also been little worried about getting rest stops for bio-breaks, but Jason has that down! There were convenient stops before and after lunch. We had a nice coffee/bio-break about an hour out and were offered water (in our new souvenir logo bottles!) and snacks. Lunch is usually a picnic later in the season; because it was still cold and snowy, we went to the Yellowstone restaurant (whatever we wanted was included in the tour price). In the afternoon, we were offered more drinks and snacks. We got back to the hotel about 6 or 6:30; I was having too much fun to keep an eye on the time.

The tour offers a very sensitive combination of “being guided” and “alone time.” At Old Faithful, Jason showed us the viewing area, told us the best place to stand to see the eruption and not be enveloped in steam, and said he’d meet us afterwards. So we had perhaps 20 minutes to explore the magnificent hotel on our own before getting to the viewing site early, as he’d recommended. Good thing! The eruption was 10 minutes earlier than the sign had suggested. After the eruption, we returned to the hotel lobby and went to lunch with Jason, and then we had a few more minutes on our own. (I bought a turquoise mountain lion fetish at the gift shop as a memento of the day.) Later that afternoon, we also had the opportunity to walk the geyser basin area on our own and talk about what we’d seen; much appreciated.

I highly recommend this company. Jason was a careful and knowledgeable guide (e.g., he looked at the wind direction and had told us where to stand to best see the eruption--the main crowd ended up downwind and could not see it so well!) and knew all about the animals, geology, birds, etc. as well as being excellent company for the day.
I attached some pictures--taken with my cell phone so please don't think their quality is representative of the quality of what we saw!!!
