“Wonderful staff, stunningly beautiful location!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 August 2012

This is the best vacation we've ever had! We have 3 teenagers, aged 13-19, and we needed to unplug. Well, unplug we did,-there is no cell service or internet - we road horses, hiked challenging trails and learned to flyfish. The staff is attentive, friendly, unobtrusive, and extremely helpful. The family style meals were beautifully prepared and bountiful. The location is stunning and the cabins simple, yet very clean and comfortable. I can't think of a single thing that this vacation lacked, and I plan on returning again.

We have travelled from Australia to what is a stunningly beautiful part of the world. Flat Creek Ranch has magnificent natural scenery, well set up cabins with everything that one could want.
Activities include fly fishing, hiking, horseback riding or just sitting by the lake or the running stream reading a book. Imaging having canape and drinks overlooking the lake with a small group of really lovely and interesting people. The owners, managers and staff went out of there way to make our stay really memorable. The chef is fabulous so all meals are really, really delicious. This was the best back to nature holiday I have ever had especially as it provided all the luxury one could want. This should be a must stay on your bucket list.

Room Tip: All great cabins.

I have done a lot of travelling over the years & this had to be the best vacations I’ve taken in a long time. My sister, 2 nieces and myself went up to Flat Creek Ranch for 4 days, and what a treat! We knew right away that this was going to be good when Randi picked us up in town & we were warmly welcomed - she had such a great energy! The hospitality continued with Shelby once we arrived at the ranch. Then, the food was absolutely delicious (oh my gosh, Seth - the best food ever!). The activities were great (from hiking with Brielle to horseback riding with Todd :) So much fun!!! Trey even taught 4 girls how to fly fish in 30 minutes & we caught one! The cabins were comfortable (exactly what we needed – no more, no less), the air was fresh, and Joe & Marcia were simply a delight. How kind of them to open their home to the world! And - we got to meet other guests from all across the country, which was actually much more fun than I expected :} It was truly a perfect vacation & I am still talking about it. Thanks everyone! I couldn’t have asked for anything more :)

The ultimate vacation experience in the Gros Ventre wilderness. Excellent staff, food, accommodations. All top notch. Definitely not your "run of the mill" ranch. I like the intimate, low-key atmosphere. The scenery is stunning. A beautiful lake, the best horses ever, and the best riding trails ever. The staff are beyond accommodating as are the owners Joe and Marcia. Shelby and Trey are friendly, knowledgeable, and always available.
The food is the best ever. Flat Creek is not to be missed.

My husband and I, along with our 10 and 12-year old daughters, just returned from an amazing three days at Flat Creek Ranch. With stunning views, rustic accommodations, lovingly-prepared meals, and personalized service, this was truly the experience of a lifetime for all of us. Even my Manhattan-loving 12- year old didn't want to leave! Although only 12 miles from town, it feels like you are much, much further from civilization. The hour-long trip from Jackson was one of the highlights -- thanks, Linda for being such an excellent driver!

After enjoying a hearty breakfast each morning, we headed out for horseback riding, fly fishing or hiking. For each activity, we were accompanied by a member of the Flat Creek staff who provided us with great instruction and loads of interesting information about the ranch property and the surrounding areas. The owners, Joe and Marcia, shared the fascinating history of the ranch and it's original inhabitants--one of whom happens to have been Joe's great-aunt.

We stayed in the Cissy cabin, with its comfy beds, claw foot tub and huge front porch -- perfect for relaxing with a glass of wine or one of the areas delicious craft beers! Also, it was great to unwind in the steam sauna with the other guests after a long day of fishing, riding and hiking. And with no television or radio, and limited Internet and cell coverage, we were really able to "unplug", relax and reconnect with each other.

Joe and Marcia, as well as each and every staff member - Trey, Shelby, Linda, Alex, Chefs Eric and Seth, Ariel and Todd (I hope I didn't forget anyone!) - really made our experience special. It is obvious that they all love the ranch and are excited to be able to share it with their guests. We consider ourselves very lucky to have found Flat Creek Ranch and we hope to be able to return soon.

My sister and I came to this amazing place for a 3-day fly fishing school after meeting Trey and Shelby Sharpe (the camp managers) at their small camp in Argentina. This place takes some effort to get to (Trey brought us in with a big SUV) but is a little bit of heaven once you arrive. There are only 5 log cabins so it will never be crowded. While we were there (preseason) we were the only guests and had the run of the place. The camp is located in a high mountain valley with a beautiful lake surrounded by snow capped peaks. Flat Creek runs from the lake below the main lodge and is a premier stream for catching Snake River Cut Throat trout. It was quite cold (a little snow) the first night, but our cabin had two queen beds loaded with quilts and comforters and there is a wood stove in the sitting room (just remember to feed it wood during the night). The food was fantastic (compliments to Chef Sean and helpers) for all meals while we were there (eaten family style around a large table). Trey is a wonderful fishing guide/instructor with the patience of a saint, very encouraging to beginner fly fisher women. We were lucky to have two guest fishing guides while we were there (Jeff Currier and Patti Reilly). They were both super guides who were very friendly as well as knowledgeable with a great sense of humor and wonderful tales to tell. We enjoyed cocktails before dinner on the big porch of the main lodge, looking out at the lake as the sun set. Wow!
A new addition to the camp staff, Baby Lucila, keeps mom (Shelby) and dad (Trey) on their toes. It won't be long before she is out there riding, hiking and fishing with her mom and dad. Our only regret is that we didn't have more days there. We certainly plan to return.

Room Tip: Our favorite cabins are the ones hanging right over the river.

We've been to many ranches as a family but Flat Creek really takes the prize. The location and setting are just unbelievable. I kept pinching myself, it was so beautiful. If you want to get away to stunning nature (the wild flowers and butterflies were out of this world) and peace and quiet, this is it! Our only regret is that we weren't there longer. Thanks to owners Joe and Marsha for sharing this with others.

Fishing? Fantastic native trout and cutthroats in private water. Even our daughter who hates fishing and has never fly fished, caught a bunch. Trey, one of the ranch managers and excellent fishing guide watches over the river as if those fish are his own children. So great to see that level of stewardship and he's a great teacher.

The staff was fantastic. Obviously the owners Joe and Marsha and managers Trey and Shelby are wonderful to work for and very talented at assembling a staff and managing them because each staffer was friendly, happy, engaging and knowledgable. The service level was just right. Never too much but with nice touches like coffee delivered to your door before breakfast. Both of my adult kids want to work here.

We like to ride and found the horses and terrain wonderful. Again, just wish we'd done more of it. We were grateful to fit in that Sunday ride. Thanks Shelby!

We've been to several other ranches at different stages (young kids, pre teen etc) and now that our kids are grown we feel this was the perfect ranch for us. I really liked that it was small, only 5 guest cabins. I just felt like I was under a blanket of peace the whole time. To say I didn't want to leave is an understatement.

Room Tip: All good but I really liked the Judges cabin on the Creek that our kids shared.
