“Wonderful Campground”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 July 2014

We arrived at approximately 8pm the week of the July 4th holiday - and there was a spot for us to tent camp in! The spot we chose was one of the few sites left, but it was in a quiet area with plenty of privacy (the sites in this campground are well spaced). During our stay we saw moose & bison near, but not in, the campground. The river keeps up a soothing sound as you drift off to sleep, and the beautiful bird calls are a wondrous sound to wake to. The restrooms were clean & basic; the views were spectacular; the experience is something I'll never forget.

We really liked this campground. Sites were spread out. It was quiet at night. Away from the roads and noise. Close to the Gros Ventre River for some nice walks and wildlife viewing. We saw a small Black Bear and a moose near the campground. Also, Bear lockboxes at each site in the loop we were in.

This was a nice campground to tent camp at. It had great views of the Tetons and was located very near to trails and Jackson Hole. There were lots of bison, and even a grizzly sow and her cubs nearby. Plus the river right behind the campground.

Pros: clean bathrooms, awesome views, close to trails and town, lots of wildlife, great staff, fairly private camping (where we were in F loop), large and private bear boxes.

Cons: no hot water or showers

Great place to stay if you are tent camping!

Beautiful campground. No electric or water at sites, but that's fine. Really good drinking water is available, bring containers. Ice available at entrance. Clean bathrooms, no showers. Short distance to most attractions in Tetons and Jackson without the crowds. We camped in a hard side camper, our son had a tent. Enjoyed by all. Lots of moose and other wildlife. Can't wait to go back.

We stayed at this campground for a week in a travel trailer. Our site was in the "C" loop on the outside closest to the river. The sites are spacious and widely separated, unlike the typical commercial RV campgrounds. And, this place has resident moose, which we saw every day! Generator hours are generous, and everyone around us had the quiet Honda's, so noise was not a problem. The restrooms were very clean, but lacked hand sanitizer or soap. Lots of trees in our area, many of them cottonwood which were beginning to change color to yellow.

Room Tip: If you want to use a generator, the best sites are on the outer loop of "C" or "D&quo...

Though Gros Ventre (pronounced "grow vauhn") is not the most pristine campground, it gets many points for being close to Jackson (10 minutes?), close to wildlife (bison, moose, pronghorn), beautiful view of Tetons and close to Jenny Lake. Because there is no shower, we went to the rec center in Jackson for a quick swim (water slide!) and shower. And the best part, is that we got a site at 6p.m. Apparently this campground rarely fills before evening.

Pros:
Lots of trees and shade
Electric hookups for ADA with RV
Clean restrooms
Great walk to the river
Moose sightings early in the morning within a mile
Quiet
Courteous and friendly staff
Off the beaten path

Cons:
No showers (showers facilities are actually quite scarce in Teton National, as we discovered) Closest showers were a 20 to 30 minute drive away.
No hot water, even in their dishes room in the bathroom
Off the beaten path (both pro and con) it was a solid 10 to 15 minute drive to the main highway.

This park is spectacular. Teton really deserves an entire vacation all it's own. I was sad we only planned for a couple of days there. We'll have to go back to enjoy the full experience.
