Attraction details
Owner description: The Pinedale region was at the heart of the Rocky Mountain Fur Trade, which supplied precious beaver pelts to the fashion industries of Europe and the eastern United States. Mountain men like Jim Bridger, Kit Carson, Thomas Fitzpatrick and William Sublette carved their legends here, and opened the way for the pioneers of the Oregon Trail. The Museum of the Mountain Man shares a comprehensive collection of Rocky Mountain fur trade journals, relics such as Jim Bridger’s Rifle and the finest Native American sheephorn bow still in existence. Opened May through October and winter season by appointment.

One of the highlights of our visit to Pinedale, WY was the Museum of the Mountain Man. Very well done without a lot of fluff. The artifacts are amazing and tell the story of Wy's history quite accurately.

This museum has some very exciting and high quality exhibits. We were very pleasantly surprised!!! Full of western history not only mountain men, but everything from arrowheads to barbwire and firearms to women's clothing. The staff very helpful and pleasant.

“Pretty cool”

We decided to stop at this little town on our way up to Jackson Hole and glad we did. This museum was like no other, especially loved the John Wayne display. Definitely worth the stop.

“Cool museum ”
Reviewed 14 May 2014 via mobile

Small but very nice museum with a little bit of history and something for everyone. The building was built specifically for this museum and it boasts two housing reconstructions inside, a huge teepee and a twig house. Lots of great displays showcasing various aspects of western life modern and ancient. Good for the whole family.

“Great Place”
Reviewed 19 February 2014

This museum was great! Even though it is located in a very small town, it has almost anything you would want to see or know about mountain men of the old west. The exhibits are well displayed and the information on each item is very thorough. It is well worth the atop.
