“I had to clean fridge and microwave before we could use it. Ugggh.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 July 2013

The owner seemed quite a nice chatty lady, but she has too much on her plate. The room seemed fine but when opening the fridge door to put in our food I was very cross. It had not seen bicarbonate and water for a long time inside and out. We found the shelves to the fridge in a drawer and they were filthy. The microwave was also needing a good scrub with hot water and bicarbonate of soda. It was only too obvious that this room is rented out for weekly workmen.

The bath/shower tap was coming off the fitting. We could only get very hot water out of it, as it would not switch over for cold water. I cooled the hot water down with cold water from the wash basin tap, using a pudding basin. It is no good sticking a notice above the tap indicating how to work it when it is so obviously broken, hanging off. Not a chore I welcomed after travelling a long way.

The bed was fine and we had a good nights sleep, but not happy. We enjoyed our trip over the mountain and back, fantastic views.

This owner needs to get some help. It is a shame as the outside looks great and the rooms too, just needs a very good clean and the bath tap repaired. Rental overpriced.

Breakfast was good. But we won't be returning.

We stopped at the Western Motel in Ranchester, Wyoming (pop. about 380) without reservations. It is on the road to Yellowstone Nat'l Park and is busy. I'd suggest you get reservations as it fills up fast, we were last to get a room and it was only 6:00 PM. Cute place run by a really nice gal named Linda who had her little dog named "It". Clean and comfortable, but not for those looking for a 4 star place, it's nicely rustic. Pets welcome. If you've ever read my review of the Pinewood Motel in Cascade, Idaho you'll find this place almost a duplicate, same layout, same atmosphere, Had chairs outside under the porch roof in front of rooms, could sit out there and meet the other guests, made new friends there. Went to some small stores in Ranchester, everyone we met were exceedingly nice folks. Would love to go back.

This is a basic motel. I stayed here in early April, so it was still very early spring and cold. The rooms are kind of small, but the room was clean and the bed was comfortable. It was very quiet, probably because it was the off season and hardly anyone was there. It would be a good place to stay for snowmobiling or visiting the Bighorn Mtns as it is right at the base of the mountains. The owners are nice and friendly. It's older, but a decent place to stay for a night or two. I'd stay there again.

We stayed here on a long road across the west of the USA. The motel was old and had seen better days but the attractive tariff reflected this. The owners were welcoming and recommended a good eatery - the Legends Bar - for our evening meal.
Though a little cramped, the room served its purpose after a long day travelling from Custer via Little Bighorn. The bed was soft and comfortable.
Beakfast was adequate and the furniture in the breakfast room an eclectic mix from a range of styles (just like the motel unit).
Loved the town as it offered a look at small town life in Wyoming. Take the time to enjoy the view over Ranchester as you turn off the US90. In the late afternoon sun, it was eye-catching.
I wouldn't recommend the Western Motel as a destination but, as a stop-over, it was quite adequate.

This place has seen better days. The room had stained carpet, the furniture was worn, and the mattress was lumpy. The small breakfast room had badly stained carpet, a mix of furniture, the tables needed cleaning, and the room had an odor. There appears to be a disconnect between those who work in the office and whoever handles online reservations. We made an online reservation for a king-bed room; when we went to check in (showing them our e-mail confirmation) we were told they gave away the last king-bed room earlier. Overall, $90 seemed out of line for what you got.

We booked two rooms here in order to save another 20 miles of driving after a very long day on the road. We found the place to be adequate for an overnight stop and the owner recommended a very nice restaurant for our evening meal. The breakfast room was small but we did have it to ourselves and what was available was okay.

The room was clean, at a very good price and suited us.

We stayed one night on June 28, 2012, on our way to Yellowstone, and other than location, which was good, and price (for booking 10 months in advance), we were not impressed. Bathroom was not clean, hair on floor and in tub, ( the owner did come and wipe it down), the room was very small with no table, breakfast was not until 7 AM, and most persons traveling to yellowstone or on the Interstate would be gone by then, (we were).

Room Tip: If you are traveling alone, ask for room with no connecting door.
