Stop #2 of our US to Canada 6-day drive. Well, what can I say? This is a throw back to the 50's, just like the website stated. I was actually drawn to it for that reason. It had a bit of a "Bates Motel" look from the outside, and we're the kinda couple that would actually find that an attraction in a B-Movie sort of way...

We arrived after driving 500 miles to Saratoga. It is a cute little town in the daylight. We were exhausted, but ready to check out the local "Hobo Pool" I had read about online. It's a free sulphur rich hotspring in an outdoor pool area. I believe it is open all night.

I tried checking in, but the office door was locked. I found the owner (?) or someone who was kind enough to call the 2 restaurants we heard about to see if they were still open (8:30 pm). She gave us our key, the old school kind on a plastic ring with a number.

The room. AAAH, the room. It's a brick walled room, with panels on the ceiling (like in a school cafeteria). A large rectangular flourescent light is your ambience. The bed....ah, I imagine this is what it feels like in prison. I could feel every metal spring. Luckily the 500+ miles of driving made me too tired to care.

So after dinner we got our suits and headed down to the Hobo Pool. It was really nice to sit in that after all the driving, but our relaxing moments were cut short by 5 local kids who were being obnoxious. There were 2 older men and these kids, so I was the only female in the Hobo Pool. You can use your imagination. We didn't stay long.

We had read here to eat at the Wolf Hotel. Wish we would have taken that advice instead of the desk clerk's suggestion. Always follow the TripAdvisors!!

Another cheap hotel that served its purpose on our trip, pet friendly, and a place to lay our heads.

Jailed in Saratoga? It only proves the old adage that you cannot please everyone no matter how hard you try.

In reality, the month of August is very, very busy and this may have been the only room available. We do have some cheaper rooms for two at the motel. They are not cells, but they are small. The others are quite spacious. What the reviewer neglected to mention was that one wall of this room is knotty pine and instead of the florescent overhead in three rooms only, one can use the bedside lamp.

Also neglected in the review was the free internet access, the microwaves and refrigerators in every room, the convenient location within walking distance of everything, the 24 hour convenience store across the street, the free hot springs open 24 hours a day and the video security.

You have to arrive early to eat well in Saratoga. The Wolf Hotel closes at 9PM and is often reservations only, especiaslly on summer weekends. Great food, but only for the early birds who get the worm.
