A lovely little photo stop but nothing there after 9/15. There are restrooms open but that is it after 9/15.

Saw this waterfall about 20 years ago. Still as beautiful and worth seeing again. Steep stairs to climb down to viewing areas, but can be seen without climbing, views are better down the stairs though

We passed this by and then decided to go back. Glad we did. The falls are a not big or dramatic in late summer but the entire experience was nice. The parking is free and the gift shop is small but nice with very friendly staff who are able and willing to answer questions about the falls and the surrounding area. There is a path that winds through an arboretum type setting of native flora with signs posted to help identify the various plants and their uses. All along this path are very nice views of the canyon carved by the river and frequently wildlife grazing or drinking from the stream down below. The falls are very nice and a viewing area is provided that is really quite close to the falls. There are nice clean bathrooms near the gift shop and it is just a great place to pause and stretch your legs for a bit before driving on.

I am not sure why the tourist council for Wyoming seems to ignore this place... I would rate it among the top ten places to visit in the Rocky Mountains. It was my second choice for our wedding. (Just a bit difficult to organize with the tourists wandering around)

The canyon is spectacular, and the Falls are exceptional. Unfortunately, there are not a lot of signs that direct people to the spot, and when you are heading towards Shell from Sheridan, it would be easy to miss. But don't! I know many people think that going over the highway towards Lovell that passes the Medicine Wheel is the better route, but once you see the scenery along that route, well... there's nothing much more to it.

Shell Falls never gets old. If you want to visit the information booth, be sure to stop there during the summer months. The water is the most magnificent then, but continues to deliver later in the season as well. As you come down the highway towards Shell, you will see some awesome rock formations. Be sure to stop and look for the Bear,Man and Elephant formation.

The top of the pass also offers a lot of wild life viewing during the early summer months, particularly moose, deer and elk. If the cars in front of you are slowing, it is generally because someone has spotted some of these animals.

This is worth a pit stop to get out and stretch your legs; there's a bathroom at the visitor's center, and a pathway along the upper edges of the cliff that make for an easy walk. There are some stairs, so those with mobility issues will have problems going down to the main falls viewing deck.
