The RED REFLET is not a dude ranch. It's not a resort. It's not a western experience.

It's all of these, and SO much more!

Individual homes for your whole family, with 20 foot high windows covering one entire side of the house, overlooking mountains, streams and high meadows, with the most beautiful sunrises and sunsets you will ever see.

Gourmet meals, served in an ultra modern lodge, combining mouthwatering 5 star dishes from only farm grown, local ingredients, coupled on other days with the finest western cookouts, bar-b-q's and 'on the range' eating events.

A brash, irreverant activities director who makes you laugh continuously and who picks EVERYTHING you wanted to do, and introduces you to amazing things you never thought of doing!

A staff of incredible professionals in horse activities, ranching, fishing, shooting, climbing, hiking, motor and ATV..............along with professionals in winetasting, french cooking, rafting, kayaking, mountain biking, exploring famous local dinosaur excavations, and more. The whole array for people who want to 'go' all day, those who want it 'slow' most of the way, and everything in between.

A location keeping you completely isolated in strikingly picturesque red and gold butte mountains, forests and streams, and Red Reflet's10,000 acres of wild nature, while being just a short 2 hour ride to our favorite national forest, Yellowstone, with Old Faithful, Grizzly Bears, Buffalo, and breathtaking waterfalls and scenery.

The "plan" for a stay at Red Reflet......is no plan. Many ranches require you to come on Sunday, and leave on Saturday. The packages are 7 days......and that's it. Not at RR!Want to come on Monday and leave Thursday, for a quick get-away......perfect! Decide to show up on Tuesday to stay for a couple weeks and really wind down.....they've got you covered.

We called for a stay arriving on Monday, and leaving on Saturday. A friendly, British accented woman took our number and called back immediately! This was "Ann", the 'concierge' and activity director for the whole ranch. Our group has adults and teens. Some people wanted continous horseriding, cattle drives, and ranch fun. Others wanted to throw in hands-on cooking lessons, visits to famous local sites, and comfortable down time at the huge, refreshingly maintained pool. The kids 'demanded' to have 'lots of ATV', fishing trips, and of course regular features at the movie theatre in the lodge. Ann handled EVERY request without even letting us know she was 'on the job.'

The arrival had us standing on the porch of the main lodge, looking with our mouth's open at the breathtaking view of huge, red and gold sandstone mountains, with horses running free, cattle grazing pastures, and cool pine forests in the distance----but ALL of this on the ranch.

We quickly met our hosts, Bob and Laurence Kaplan. He is an acerbic, witty former mega corporate owner who decided one day to take his ranching and horsemanship to the next level---a full, working cattle ranch operation. She is a french speaking sophisticate, born in Morocco, raised in Paris and Australia, who flies their charter plane to pick up guests at their private air strip, and then climbs the natural bluffs at Castle Garden with you and your family!

Many 'dude ranches' put up dozens of guests at a time. The rides are 'nose to tail', using 10 ranglers and 30 guests. You see the horse in front of you. At Red Reflet, you ride with small groups, taking your exploration into whatever adventures YOU chose. Want to get off the trail and move up to that scenic meadow peeking from behind that hill----you are there. Have some guests who aren't quite as good at riding....or are going for the first time? No problem, since the ranglers stick with their small pairing of guests, and they help everyone have a safe fun ride! For example, on morning we started out early in the cooler day to ride to the upper range. Our group is 7 and that made 10 with our ranglers Tammy, Lindsey and Coulter. Shortly into the ride, Tammy cried out, "THERE THEY ARE!!" Of course, we thought she meant some cool wildlife, like a herd of elks, or fast moving antelope. Instead, it was a small group of 6 renegade cattle which had been MIA for several days! They were all the way across the meadow, on a ridge, but as soon as those misbehaved cows saw us below them, they took off running!! If you have never seen this, realize that cows don't just 'mosey along' the path. These bad boys gallop full speed across the field and then up the hill into the brush.

The kids were overjoyed with this, and the 'better riders' were even more excited since it was clear we were going to have an unscheduled round up!

"Bill, you ride across that lower rise and stop near the fence line. Patrick, head up the hill over that way and come back around toward the middle. Sharon and the kids, fan out and made a line while you keep moving toward the lower meadow."

Tammy called out our orders and we were off, tracking those cows and driving them back home to the main pasture!! It took almost an hour but we brought 'em down the mountain, and back to the herd. That is a typical experience at Red Reflet, where you are not a customer, but part of the daily operation of this incredible cattle ranch.

This is evident by the amount of time you spend with the owners. How many 'resorts' do you visit where the actual owner and activity director spend the whole day with you, hiking, climbing, or fly fishing. Going not just to give you their countless years experience but because they also LOVE doing it. You just can't get a presentation about the history of a hidden box canyon and a cave with hundreds of ancient bones, any better than when it is given by the person who discovered it....the ranch owners, as they hike with you, 2.5 hours into the wilds of Wyoming!

And the caliber of guests they attract makes the stay so much more interesting. We spent dinners with a woman who is an engineer for the National Park Service and worked with NASA as a leader of the team in charge of recovering the pieces of the Challenger space shuttle. We rode most every day with a french woman from Paris and her two sons. She is the sole female executive in Europe for a major management consulting firm, and had very interesting views on U.S. politics, economy, and the best way to deal with a horse that is misbehaving! At dinner, we sat with guests from all over the world, while our teens made fast friends with kids who spoke languages America kids have only flirted with in school.

Each day, the staff delivered whatever you wanted for the next morning breakfast directly to your chalet, which had a full size kitchen with every ammenity. When we came in from a great ride and a cool swim in the pool, and asked for a container of salted pecans, dark chocolate chips and bananas for pancakes the next morning, they appeared as if by magic at our table as we finished our dinner. Then, the pastry chef suggested a bit of vanilla to 'make the flavors really pop!" This place ROCKS!

We have not even mentioned the fly fishing lessons the french teenager and the ranch owner, Bob, gave some of our group; or the wild ATV rides we took into the miles of trails; or the unbelieveable shooting and skeet we did as the sun peeked over the mountains. But those are things you will experience yourself when you come to Red Reflet.

And don't be surprised if you meet us there when you go, since we are DEFINITELY coming back!!

Thanks for listening. Hope this helps you on your upcoming trip.

We had such an amazing visit at the Red Reflet Ranch! The really cool thing about this ranch is that you are able to create your own schedule. There is so much to see and do here! We hiked all kinds of terrain (with the owner as a guide - so cool!), rode horses, shot guns, learned how to cast a fly rod, had awesome one on one cooking lessons from a gourmet chef, traveled to Yellowstone...the list goes on!

The accommodations were beautiful, clean, and serviced daily. The chalets are homes with all amenities - we definitely were not roughing it:) They even had a French press in our kitchen for my coffee - how fabulous!! I love that the house is stocked with breakfast foods, snacks and drinks. And if there is a special food or drink item that you don't have in your chalet - they will get it for you!

The food was fabulous and fun! Being foodies, we were so excited to see what Chef Chris would bring to the table every day! Eye-catching presentation, exciting flavors - I am still talking about some of those dishes! I also love the fact that they use many items from their greenhouse, garden, chicken coop, and meat reserves.

The staff was equally amazing, friendly and kind. Bob and Lawrence are such special people that make you feel like family while you visit! Anne and Mikey are a hoot and super sweet:) Really and truly everyone there makes an effort to wave or say hello - they all help to make the ranch a wonderful, inviting place!

We are looking forward to the day we can return with children!

Thanks again to everyone for making our vacation so memorable!!

Room Tip: There are NO bad rooms!

When we began planning our honeymoon, we knew we wanted to make once in a lifetime memories! So we researched and found this beautiful little chunk of heaven in little Tensleep, WY! We began saving our money and managed to save enough for a 6 night stay... it was not long enough! Everything and everyone was wonderful! We were in awe the moment we arrived from the beautiful cabins to the absolute breathe taking views!
We rode horses, fourwheelers, went to the rodeo, rented the SUV-drove to yellowstone and cody for one day... and another day went to Kaycee WY (chris Ledoux fans)

The staff was awesome... they certainly make you feel at home!

Cant wait to return!!! :)

Room Tip: Each cabin is different- the panorama was awesome! We loved everything about it!

I don't know where to start! After doing many hours of research on dude/guest ranches, I chose Red Reflet based on the types of activites offered and the lack of schedule; we were able to do what we wanted, when we wanted. It is more expensive than some, but it is worth EVERY... SINGLE...PENNY.

We were absolutely thrilled with our stay. This is a first class, well run ranch. Bob and Laurence Kaplan are unbelievable hosts, who always have your wishes on the top of their list, every day. Ann Herb, the guest services guru, is fabulous as well. She made sure that our day was packed with activites, if we wanted, and arranged everything with the staff to make each piece of the vacation run smoothly, even down to the meals. Clay and Tammy Trollinger, who run the horse stable, worked so well with us and our boys, making sure we rode as often as we wanted and went out of their way each day. The wrangler interns were great as well. Chris Henderson, the ranch chef, presented "Top Chef" meals each day. He takes such pride in presenting delicious, fresh, organic food and is more than willing to prepare anything you want. My picky 9 yr. old even made him a list, and Chris accomodated him whenever possible. The ENTIRE staff is wonderful, attentive and very friendly!

The area of Wyoming that holds Red Reflet is stunning. You will never tire of the gorgeous mountains that you will see on your horse or ATV. There is an abundance of land to explore, and the staff will help you see as much of it as you can! The chalets are beautiful, well stocked and as comfortable as your own home. The little details they think of are great!

I think what made the biggest impression was the vision of Bob and Laurence. They have made this ranch their life's work, and it is obvious they love this land and want to share it. They are so environmentally concious, and their passion for nature is contageous. We now look at the outside world with new eyes! Our boys, age 13 and 9, were able to do so many activites that they had never experienced. This is a vacation that we will remember forever. Do not hesitate to choose Red Reflet...it truly is a piece of heaven on earth!!

Room Tip: All of the chalets are beautiful, the Panorama offers the best view!

We were there for a wedding and everything seemed wonderful. The price quoted from the owner turned out to be false, it was considerably higher when we received our bill. There were mouse droppings in some of the bedrooms, the staff only picked up our trash one day and we were there for 5 days and there were 10 of us!!!! No beds were made or bathrooms cleaned or any vacuuming done. The day of the wedding the iron was not working and we had to call twice for someone to bring us one. We have traveled all over the world and there was not one place where we stayed that did not clean daily. Several of us wear white socks around the house and every night the socks were filthy! There is a 15% gratuity for services for what I can't imagine!!! We were so disappointed and I know the bride and groom felt terrible about all of this and it was the last thing they needed to be concerned about. It is a beautiful place, but keep in mind...every activity outside of sleeping will be extra, check your bill, get everything in writing!!!!!!!!!
