Jackson Hole and Hotel Terra (in particular) worked very well for our family with two teenage skiers. The location - maybe 200 yards to the Tram, Bridger Gondola and the rest of the JH base area lifts. In the afternoon, you can ski to within 15 yards of Hotel Terra's helpful ski valet where you off-load your skis/poles and maybe enjoy a hot cider.

Well-designed, large rooms. We went with a kingbed room and the kids were across the hall in a room w two queen beds. Free wifi. Great bathrooms. Comfy beds. Good workout facility. Couple of large hot tubs. Great lobby with a crackling fire and lots of seating areas. Each evening you can enjoy drinks, small plates and even small pizzas in the lobby.

The Osteria Restaurant, one of the best in Teton Village, is right in Hotel Terra. Spur Restaurant is next door. Try them both. We had breakfast each morning at the Terra Cafe.

On three different evenings, we rode the $3 public bus into Jackson for dinners, shopping and walking around (we didnt rent a car).

From the guy that helped with our luggage, the fellows staffing ski vallet, the concierge, to the folks at the front desk - Hotel Terra is well-run, happy place. We look forward to returning and our kids pretty much insist on it.

The hotel is modern, very well designed, with the perfect location and attentive and warm staff. It is also across the yard from some great restaurants/bars, which makes things even easier.
If I have one note of caution, it is to expect ongoing marketing blasts, updates and seasonal wishes from their marketing database. I requested to be unsubscribed multiple times via the bottom of the email and even called their office to plead to be taken off their marketing database. Alas, I just got another email right on Christmas day. It seems one cannot break free, which is a little annoying...

We were so excited to stay at the Terra in Jackson Hole, but in the end, felt like the hotel really rested on it’s spotty success and left us with a bitter end in our mouth.

We booked a "play like a local package", that includes one of various activities. However, we were informed by the head concierge (after she had to check with 5 other people) that we actually had to purchase an activity (at an additional cost) and put it on the room in order to have the "package". How's that for a misleading business practice!! What kind of hotel package is this? Furthermore, one of the option items listed as INCLUDED is Lift Tickets, yet none of the staff could verify this. It's clearly listed on the hotel Terra website and on the email confirmation I received. In the end, we got nothing for the package, a total scam.

Rooms: upon check-in, the hotel staff graciously indicated that we had been upgraded to a corner suite. Thanks! Yet once in the awkwardly designed room, we realized that there were no views from any of the windows. Most likely the least desired room in the hotel. After trying to convey that we would prefer to be downgraded to our original room, we were given an endless "pass the buck" through different staff members to get the room we actually paid for back. We then attempted to access our room, but none of the keys worked. We asked for new keys. The new keys didn't work either. Finally, a housekeeper let us in. Upon accessing the room, we realized that our closet at home is much larger than this room.

The television in the room shut off every 10 mins. On the nose. Took us a couple of hours to realize that it was preprogrammed on a "sleep" setting, and that after 10 mins the device was programmed to shut down. Insane!

Upon checkout, the bill was wrong, added phantom charges, a mess.

We contacting the General Manager to his email address in his business card, but the email address was wrong (what kind of hotel lists the wrong contact information for their General Manager??). We were provided another address, and we have yet to hear back.

We would definitely NOT return to this place. For the price point, pick the Four Seasons of the Teton Mountain lodge, which are leagues apart when it comes to Customer Service.

Room Tip: Pick a high floor, as there are no views from anywhere else.

Dear deredye,

Thank you for your valuable comments related to your recent stay with us. Our 'Play Like A Local' package has been a big hit with our guests and I am very concerned that you feel we have misrepresented ourselves or are operating some sort of a "total scam".

The following explanation of the package is below and is offered by our reservations agent and concierge teams and, as you reference in your comments, available on our website:

"Available November 29, 2013- April 6, 2014. Package price varies based on chosen activity. Subject to blackout dates. - See more at: http://hotelterrajacksonhole.com/packages/play-like-a-local-winter/#sthash.EpPNZgY3.dpuf"

Please know that we chose our words very carefully so as to not mislead anyone. I am very sorry that in your case we failed to articulate the specifics of the package clearly.

I feel badly that your stay was marred in any way and will be attempting to contact you to resolve to your satisfaction.

Wishing you the very best from Jackson Hole!

We loved staying right on the slopes, where you can get all your gear in minutes and ski to the front door.
The staff is UBER helpful and friendly, the spa is a perfect place to unwind after a day of skiing, and nearby restaurants are top notch (definitely try Spur for lunch and WB for dinner over at the Four Seasons).
The only thing to watch out for is the bed frame at night - shin killer :-/ and a sauna would be nice... Other than that, it's awesome :) we will definitely be back!

We were looking to visit Jackson some time this year as we had never been and only live 5 hours away. After calling a few times for reservations, we found that the day after Thanksgiving we could get a great deal for 2 nights during their slow season. We booked 2 nights and the lady on the phone upgraded us to a suite with full kitchen, balcony, fireplace, etc. Many hotels have "suites" but when we walked in to our room, we were blown away by how spacious it was. Truly a suite for an entire family.

The front desk check-in was a breeze and the front desk guy was great. I am pretty sure he was running the place as I saw him every day and he was everything from front desk, to concierge, to room service.

Rooms were perfect. Clean and very modern. The bed was very comfortable and overall the place was quiet. We used the awesome outdoor heated pool (or is it a giant hot tub?) while it was snowing and the temp's were perfect. It was opening day for skiing so a few apré ski parties but those only lasted to 10pm or so......it is a ski village after all!

The breakfast served in our room was awesome. We had Nutella crêpes and bagel sandwiches which I highly recommend. If you want to eat out there are a few places to walk to without having to drive to Jackson.

Overall I would recommend Hotel Terra for couples or families who are looking for a little retreat in the mountains at a great value. The hotel is an A+ as is the service. The drive to Jackson is only a few minutes and there are free shuttles all day long; so for us it was a lot more relaxing being removed from the larger town of Jackson and enjoying a quaint mountain village.

Room Tip: The suites are incredibly appointed and can easily accommodate 4-5 people.

Stayed for a long early season ski weekend and have to say top notch place. Super convent to lifts as it is slopeside and a stones throw to the Mangy Moose so you can crawl back if necessaryh. The place is super clean and modern and the staff can't do enough. The amenities are just what you need hot tub on the roof with amazing views. Cafe in the lobby for a quick bite before and day of skiing. The hotel restaurant has great food and a good price. Over all one of the best places to stay at Jackson Hole for the money.

Stayed in February earlier this year and also Feb 2012. Truly superb location with ski in ski out right by the lifts and rentals. Very modern hotel witch was spotlessly clean as we're the rooms. 12 of us in 2012 so booked a 3 bed suite and a connecting room. Reception staff were great friendly and accommodating. Best part of the hotel the outdoor hot tub overlooking the Mangy Moose bar. They also have another outdoor hot tub on the roof. Nice bath robes to get to and from the hot tub. You just don't want to get out of the hot tub when it is 5 degrees outside !!! Super location only 20 yds from the very lively Mangy Moose right opposite. Would not stay anywhere else when skiing Jackson. Highly recommended. Concierge will give you discount card for rentals. Just ask !!
